It’s mid, ti version is high end
It used to be the 60 series before Nvidia jacked up the prices so it’s just poor value mid range.
4070 is what the 4060 should have been. They lowered the quality of each tier. 4070 is overpriced mid range
Mid range means middle of the range. This is the range:
* 4090
* 4080/super
* **4070ti/super**
* **4070/super**
* 4060ti
* 4060
The 4070 could be called mid range or lower-mid range.
I’ll agree with Jerry on this one.
On Nvidia’s side, the 4070 is upper mid-range. There’s the 4080s above it as high end and 4090 as halo. Nvidia’s inability to control its costs doesn’t make the 4070 any more powerful, only more expensive.
On AMD’s side, the “7” is mid-range, but so is the “8” for the 7000 series!
The 4080 super is a mid range card historically speaking from a technical standpoint.
60 are lower end, 70 are mid-tier, and 80+ are high end.
depends if there is XX50 card.

When 80 was high-end, there were generations where 70 was too. GTX570 and 670 were barely slower than the 80s. Now there are much bigger chips above them in the same gen and they became upper midrange/”performance”
xx30 – bottom end
xx50 – low end
xx60 – lower mid range
xx70 – upper mid range
xx80 – high end
xx80Ti/xx90 – halo / flagship / top end
comes down to the version. A 4070/Super should be called mid range but a ti super can be called just high end.

Only 4070ti Super deserve to be called high end power and price wise. Lower and it’s a mid range.
Referring to Tom’s Hardware GPU benchmark, the card ( non Ti Super) can’t be called high end for this gen if they are losing to high end of previous generation. That what makes it a mid range.
I want to upgrade from an asus rtx 2070 super. Should I buy the 4070 now? I was planning on waiting until next the generation.

10/20/30-70 TI/Super is High-End
I own a 4070, the chip is what was once the xx60, they upped names and prices, call me a fool but the 4090 is what was once the high end and the 4080 is what was the xx70, so the 4080 is upper midrange sold for more than 1k.
I started caring about pc gaming during the Fermi era, 580 was less than 500€, the 590 was dual chip for 700€.
anything with rtx is high end for me (except the xx50 rtx and 4060 rtx)

I’ve always viewed the 70 series as the mid range. 60 is your introductory range, 70 is mid, 80 is high end. Titan/90 is your more money than sense tier.

mid range, cards below it are low-end and 80+ are high-end
xx60 is entry-level, xx70 is mid-range, xx80 is high-end, and xx90 is enthusiast-level.
It used to be the same but Titans and xx80tis occupied the enthusiast slot and xx40s/xx50s populated the entry slot, but now there are no more Titans and they only make basic gpu models (xx30s-xx50s) periodically when there are major architectural changes.
