You are assuming their is no underling structural damage that could be worsened by jumping on it.

It’s like in Fallout when a door is 99% destroyed and barely hanging on, but it’s locked, so you can’t go through it. Even though more than half the door isn’t there.
hummusmade
It’s pretty realistic. IRL, if someone fell trying to cross, they would shut it down. Spoiling the fun for everyone else. We have lost some fun things this way. Lawn darts, clackers, glass blowing kits, etc.
Good thing you came prepared with a 6 foot plank strapped to your back.

On an unrelated note , these graphics looks absolutely gorgeous 👀

[Divinity: Original Sin acknowledge that early on the game, you find a chest that is placed beyond a piece of rope that is literally a foot high, and your characters are unable to jump over.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XofIODizzS4)

I’m studying to become video game programmer rn. I promise I’ll do the exact same setup in one of my future projects and let you go over the barrier just to let u die the moment you jump across and the bridge collapses. You have my word.

That’s why it’s a game.

Since when is the buster sword in xvi? I only played it once at launch

It’s structurally unstable

It’s German logic
“The barrier is up, I cannot cross the bridge”
“Sure you can”
“The barrier is up, I cannot”
“But you can jump it”
“The barrier is up! I cannot!”
GonzoThompson
That’s not a bridge. That’s termites holding hands!
Hardoffel
In The Long Dark, this would just be a bridge.

Or Dark Souls 2 when the second half of the game is “inaccessible” because a couple shoulder-height boulders block the pathway
Penguin-Mage
Even I can make that jump
Roadhog360
Reminds me that in the final dungeon in Chrono Cross, there is a tiny gap that apparently the characters can’t jump past and have to take a massive detour despite being visibly like three feet wide.
CSalustro
It’s almost as if we forget the knee high walls of the olden’ days without a climb/jump button.

I hear you but I’m not walking on that. Are you kidding?
CplCucumber
Yeah its funny when you think about it, but even if the gap was wider, you could just swim across and climb the bank on the other side anyway. Its difficult to create believable barriers in games, so why not just show that you cant go there instead of an invisible wall? They also tend to add in text that makes it seem more natural. “ohh, we shouldnt go this way because its too dangerous.”

Mother 3 blocks off certain paths at the start because there’s a row of ants in front of it and you don’t want to risk stepping on them, it’s like an absurd vampire weakness like them not being able to enter your house unless you invite them.
KUROOFTHEKUSH
Bro there’s an old game where you can’t get through a door because it’s locked but despite the fact that the door itself looks like it’s being held together by hopes and dreams there is a FUCK OFF GIANT HOLE in the wall not less than 1 foot to the left of it.
YJSubs
IIRC, to repair this bridge, there’s a mission that will take you to the bottom of this bridge. And you can see the water is not deep and the other side is not a cliff either, you definitely can cross it if not for invisible wall, lol.

Hey man, I gotta like… jump… over that. I could like, trip and fall or something…
Real-Variation-8681
To be fair, I know your ass wouldn’t jump across that IRL. And even if you did, it looks like if you landed on it wrong, the boards could snap.
Even in final fantasy 16, outside of combat and certain plot excuses, the characters are still bound by real world physics.
SenpaiSwanky
People who try stuff like that irl are the ones you read about in the news who died in a bridge collapse lol. The structure is compromised.
There are way better examples of this stuff in games, because some do it pretty badly lmao.
your_favorite_mila
Its not like the graphic designer could’ve done this more “uncrossable”
Also the fix in question would be just 2 planks or a sheet of plywood to walk across, said planks you’d just rip off the bridge railing in 5 minutes of work lmao
