It’s a fun thing for LAN parties or if you just really dig that aesthetic, but finding a generic “sleeper” case with enough airflow for higher grade components can be difficult

I once lived in a shitty part of town, with a 1600$ PC. Plain black case, no RGB.
Three times my apartment got broken into in three years, and three times they stole my shitty budget 720 or 1080p monitors stolen from the recycle pile at work.
Always left the PC.
I live in a much better place now but I’m still attached to sleeper PCs.

Agree this isn’t a sleeper PC, much like a car it shouldn’t give anything away from it’s outwards appearance on it’s actual capability.
I’m on the lookout for an old 486dx PC for super cheap that I can shove some upto date kit into, but the whole retro PC thing is making it difficult. 🤣

So if it is in that case then just leave the rgb out and cover it without the glass. If your going sleeper then go all the way. Meaning full case and the parts inside are beast but no rgb and such. If you go rgb then go ahead and spend more on the case to show it off. No reason to have it and no one sees it. Defeats the point. Either go all the way one way or the other. These half builds that dip into each side doesn’t look good nor feels good and just seems like a build that you can’t decide what you want and or the budge ran out and you had to shove everything into a cardboard box.

Personally, I am function over form. I don’t have any RGB because it doesn’t provide function. I don’t care what my case looks like, it sits on the floor by my desk.
My desk tries to be minimalistic mainly for the relaxing vibes it gives off, but often fails in this job. Right now I have a bunch of crap on it.

Taking a SUPER ugly case and putting a God tier PC in it, is stupid IMO.
You pay top dollar for hardware and try to make it look like junk you picked up from the dollar store.
Lucky for those who find it once it gets thrown out tho IG.
But just using an Unassuming case with no side window and such is fully A-OK.
Depends on where i put my PC tho.
If it’s on the Desk to the side of me, i’ll go regular build cause it looks pretty.

The reality is that when you’re building a computer, you’re building it for you.
So if that’s the aesthetic that you want , I mean , I guess. The problem is the layout on the inside of most of those computer cases like the one in the picture range from being annoying to work with to just downright bad.
That’s not even touching on the lack of ventilation that most of them have.
I grew up building computers in those cases, and I can’t say I missed them one bit.
Honestly, it doesn’t sit with me very well either to spend more money on your fans than you did your case. Especially when the layout of the case is working against you no matter what kind of fans you get.
I think I’ll do stick with my fractal torret. Borderline ridiculous how good the air flow is and an absolute joy to work on and work in.
The case market has come a very long way from what you have in the picture.

I kind of want to build a sleeper. I take alot of pride in the systems I’ve built and like to show them off to people who visit. (My wife’s friends’ husbands probably all hate me for this….. and the hours of technobabble that excretes out of me with it when i try to make conversation. ) so a part of me wants to cram ridiculously high end modern parts into something like a 386 chassis and lead with that.

Depends on the case. There’s a little part me that desperately wants to build a modern system inside of the c. 2004-2007 late-pre-Dell Alienware cases. They have pretty acceptable ventilation, even today!

I like them, but not like the one in the picture, I prefer them to look as original as possible. Just some new vent orifices, since they’re impossible to avoid unless you like thermal throttling, but as concealed as possible.

God no, I was alive when those pcs were still around. I owned the biggest piece of crap imaginable, it could barely run flash games.
I don’t want anything to resemble that in my room, let alone my gaming pc.
