Hey all.

Saw this on Marketplace today. Its an older gentleman trying to sell this 2015 Acer 65hz for 208 bucks. I told its wayyyyy to much, so he lowered to 100bucks. Told him its still way to much considering its 2015 model and only 1600×900 with 65hz and he told me "If you buy a Mercedes, the older it gets the more the value increases. I told him no way youre comparing a Mercedes to a 65hz 19inch monitor lmao.

I see this all the time… Boomers don’t understand that technology degrades like a head of lettuce. Once had an old lady bring me a Pentium 4 dell new in box (1999-2000 era) computer around 2015 and told me that she paid 1000 for it and never used it so 950 would be fair… We offered to recycle it for free.

Way over-valued. He may be lucky to get away with $20 because I be seeing 1080p monitors going for 40 or less often.

“Looking for a good computer monitor” – yeah, maybe 10 years ago.

You can buy a 40-year old Mercedes for $1000-2000, that’s a fraction of the initial price.

But yeah, let him figure it out, he’s not that tech savvy but it’s an experience for him.

It’s always older people that price things from decades ago like they’re brand new. These days, you can get a way better monitor for a cheap price. I just picked up a 34in Samsung Ultrawide for around $250… I can’t imagine paying about the same for a 10 year old monitor

Maybe he wanted to type 20$ and added a 0 too much?

  7. Funky_Funked

You know it’s good cause it has “HD+” ! Thats even better than “HD ready”, wow, and you also get an extra 5hz on top of the standard 60 for all the hardcore FPS gamers xD

  8. bikini_atoll

send a him a link of like a brand new 1080p 144hz you can get for that money

Trying to explain to an old person that this monitor is the type of product that can’t do the retro thing like CRTs and isn’t powerful enough to macth newer products isn’t going to happen.

i have neighbor who will haggle even for a tomato with people he knows and try to delay the payment as long as possible, basically screw you if he can. But when he goes to buy something in the store or from someone he doesn’t know, he’ll eat up anything, they sold him 220$ xiaomi for 310$ in a store and told him he got deal on the protective glass and case, they charged him 80$ for the glass and 10$ for the 1$ case, he came in bragging about great deal and it was perfect opportunity for me to open up the store’s website and show him real price of the phone and he was pretty ashamed but he definitely deserved that

Ive gotten better monitors for $20 at thrift shops

  12. DJGloegg

    Lol

I got a 24″ 60 hz monitor with 1 hdmi plug for 5 bucks a few months ago. Gonna use it for a raspberry pi project

I aint gonna be paying large sums for any used monitor

My Benz has also just consistently lost it’s value over the years, definitely hasn’t become more valuable either lol

i’m still using a Acer monitor i bought at Walmart in 2015 for $125.

    it’s 1080p 60hz.

this dude is out of his mind. i could probably find the same monitor at a thrift store for $10-20.

On this note.. I’m thinking of selling my old acer 2k res 60hz ips 27in for 100 bucks. Fair?

  16. I’ve gotten better monitors for free on marketplace. I wouldn’t bother haggling tbh. Weird ratios can be really annoying to troubleshoot some stuff. If he got that in 2015 I think he paid less than 100 new. That’s some old tech.

  17. Patient-Factor4210

This literally has the same specs as the monitor I got for free of Facebook marketplace lmao

The Mercedes comparison is the dumbest comparison I’ve ever heard šŸ˜‚ only like 1% of cars ever go up in value even if it is a high end car, it has to have something unique or special for it to maybe become a classic one day, that’s just the reality of it, looking at cars as an investment is dumb in itself but Tech?! has got to be at least twice as bad.

  19. Obvious_Recognition4

I would give you 30 bucks tops. 20 maybe

Some people — young and old — are just simply out of touch and seldom know what they’re talking about when it comes to technology of any description. A few months ago I was combing through Facebook Marketplace and its equivalent local competitors for a passable computer my little brother could buy. Before eventually finding a good enough build at a good enough price, I had to dredge through what felt like an endless swamp of people selling their decade-old PCs with i5-2500Ks and GTX 760’s and the like for hundreds of euros; PCs with absolutely zero utilitarian value nowadays.

I see no reason to pay anything for a monitor like this one, let alone two hundred. I have a 1440p 165Hz monitor for which I paid 199€, for reference.

  21. I can go to Walmart and buy a small 4k tv for the same price.

  22. whostolemyslushie

75$ to 100$ at best. We buy these ones at my work lol

  23. CooperTheSuper1

900p for $200 is literally one of the best deals in gaming. More expensive than some graphics cards.

  24. WTF. I got a comparable montior off FB marketplace for free. Dude said ‘It’s on my porch, first come first served’.

  25. Terrible-Skill-9216

poor guy is running windows 10 21H, someone tell him to update his computer and the price of the monitor to 10 bucks lol

  26. ChunkyGoodGood

In 2008, I was pretty severely impoverished and uneducated. My girlfriend didn’t have the money to make her car payment. To save the day, I packaged up my old 17ā€ 2002 Dell computer monitor to go pawn. Some windfall came in before I could leave. I absolutely could see how someone would think that this is an appropriate price as it could be one of the more expensive things (to replace) they own. I was lucky enough not to have to experience finding out how much it was worth at the time, it would have been crushing.

  27. Sudden-Anybody-6677

Sounds like a good deal, do you have a link?

  28. DevolvingSpud

I imagined it, and also imagined not buying it.

  29. Sta1kERR

Add 50 more and you get a 1440p samsung monitor

  30. Pretty sure I can find 1080p panel for a out half that price.
