Shame on him. A lot of people would be more than pleased to pay for more content.
This is the type of game that SHOULD charge for DLCs because 1. it’s an amazing game, 2. We are happy to support the dev. 3. We would have more content!

The problem with a statement like that is the Stardew Valley creator has the *luxury* of not charging for DLC or updates. It’s a game that doesn’t require anywhere near the number of employees and so on that many other games do, so they can just snub charging for either and be completely fine.
It’s not to take anything away from the sentiment of the announcement, but it does help to keep it in perspective. It’d be like having a nation like Luxembourg declare “We promise to never militarily conquer the world!” and it’s like ok but you were never going to be able to do that anyways so it’s kind of a meaningless gesture.

ConcernedApe is just such a bro. Once Stardew Valley was fully released I don’t think anyone expected him to do any actual updates, and when he did everyone was more than happy for it.
I’d like to say that more devs should follow in his footsteps, but I feel like he can release free updates like he does mostly because of how massively successful the game was and still continues to be. It’s understandable that not every developer is going to be able to do that for every game.

I hope I’ll live long enough to play his new game that he’s working on.
