You can go as high as you want, you just won’t be getting 100% out of your GPU. You already technically aren’t getting 100% out of it in every game almost certainly, even with a 6600xt a 5700x3d would show improvements.
Of course it’s silly to upgrade the CPU for a 6600xt in this case.

As others have said, there are plenty of games with low CPU and high GPU load. If you want to know a GOOD pairing, I’d say look into a 6700xt, 6750xt, 6800, or a 7900gre. All very good $/frame GPUs, and only the 7900gre is likely to be regularly bottlenecked. Probably not often honestly.

The best visual upgrade anyone can do is a good HDR monitor though. It can only be experienced in person but it’s a much more enjoyable change than “number go up.”
I would say for 1080p go for a 2080/3070 for 1440p go for a 3080-4070 and anything above that there is almost no limit.
It depends. If the application is gpu intensive, then anything. If it is CPU intensive, get a 3060 ti or a 6700xt
There’s no such limitations… The weakest hardware will always lag behind and hold down performance, no matter what… It just depends on the workload: If you crank up the resolution and graphics to the max, you’ll use more of your video card… as long as it’s not using 95+%, your processor (or maybe some other piece of hardware) will be working harder and limiting performance (hitting close to 100%)… if your GPU reaches 95+% usage, it will be the limiter of performance in those settings, leaving some leg room for your other hardware…
Something will always be limiting your performance… even if you have a super weak processor and a super strong GPU that just means that you can crank the graphics all the way up without losing any performance, since the CPU will be the limiter… if your CPU is so weak that it by itself can’t hold a good fps when it’s working at its hardest, then sure, no need for beefier GPUs…
But for gaming a 2600 and stronger CPU will still allow you to heap benefits from top of the line GPUS such as an RTX 4090… you just might not hit 144+ fps, but 60 should still benefit…
Pointless question. Decide on how much you’re willing to spend. If that’s a good paring go for it. If it’s way above what the processor would utilise, reduce the budget but £120, in spend on a 5600XT. Does a cheaper card still out do the CPU.

I ran 3080 on a i7 6700k until just October 2023, when to 7900x3x it was fine.
I have an RTX 3080 and before I upgraded to a 12600K I used to have this exact CPU. Ran games great at 1440p especially the GPU intensive ones
What is your budget?
I had that CPU in the non-X version. I upgraded to a 5800x3d while keeping everything else the same (rtx3070). The only games that it made a noticeable difference in were cyberpunk and battlefield 2042. In those games I had problems where the 1% fps were low enough for me to notice when things were getting bogged down because of the CPU. Since most games are gpu limited, I wish I would have saved that money for a better GPU to be honest. If I were you, I’d save up for the best GPU you could get and just send it!

I suggest you watch YouTube benchmarks for this cpu with different gpus for the games you like/the resolution and fps you want. It will help you.

4090. But you’re asking what’s the highest that won’t be bottlenecked I’m assuming. In that case, still hard to say as some games are not cpu bound but gpu bound. So it really depends on what you’re looking to play

You can go as high as you want. It’ll work. As for gaming, resolution also plays a huge part in CPU performance.
FWIW I have a 3700x and I went from a 2070 to 4070 at 1440p and the games I play didn’t see a significant fps jump. My gpu load remains pretty low so at least in my games at 1440p I think 4070 is a little too powerful for my cpu
7900xtx will work amazingly with it as all of the are from amd
It depends on the framerate you want. Basically, if you are playing at 60fps, you can just get any GPU you want. Most new AAA games will fare well on this CPU and at least get close to 60fps. But if you want 120+ FPS, this CPU is not it anymore and you’ll want a 5700x3D instead and then you can throw any GPU at it.
Really all down to the games and the framerates you want. Esports and high fps? Just keep the 6600 and run on low for 120 fps.

Any gpu, “bottleneck” is a buzzword, its not like you gonna fry your pc or something, you just wouldnt be able to use the full performance of what you paid for the “bottlenecked” part.
