A couple wet noodles could keep the 7800x3d cool it’s not some volatile material like.. like let’s say an intel cpu.
Jokes aside it’s enough to keep it cool.
Edit: the ak400 is rated for 220W and a 7800x3d has a TDW of 125W, so you are definitively save there.

I’d probably recommend the AK500 or equivalent but the 7800x3d doesn’t get that hot under load even with a 360mm AIO cooling it, it uses maybe 60-70 watts.
Main reason not to use it, Deep Cool is on the US sanctions list.
Completely fine. You don’t really need a lot to cool a 7800X3D.

Yes! AK400 Digital is a dope cooler. It keeps my 5900X chilled

Downside to deep cool is potential inability to get support/warranty on the parts due to the sanctions. Other than that they’re good coolers.
I’ve got an AK620 on my 7900x, I suspect you will be fine with that on the X3D with the lower TDP and single chiplet.
I got the ak620 just for the future upgrade. It’s more than enough
It only needs to dissipate like 90W of heat max. I haven’t been able to get mine above that power draw in any synthetics. It doesn’t need much cooling at all. That said, I still threw a 360 AIO on it for style points.
7800x3d has 120w tdp and that cooler supposedly has 220w max tdp, so on paper it should.
I am currently using that one, good cooler imo.
I think it should be okay. I have a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE and my 7800X3D(stock settings)stays at 60-65c even during summer (ambient temp of 28c) while gaming at 4k.
It may be a bit on the hotter side, but it should handle it no problem. It’s a very solid cooler.
I would suggest ak620 digital, you just forget about temps with that beast

You’ll be fine. I’m using a Deepcool AG400 to cool a Ryzen 7 7700X.
Meanwhile, over in r/SFFPC, people are cooling these with a Noctua L9a…. you’ll be fine.
A cheeky undervolt never hurts though, because why not?

look at the rated tdp of the cooler and compare it to the one of the cpu (:
U can just blow on it yourself from time to time and that should cool it
AMD CPUs don’t overheat that often. Pretty much any cooler will cool a 7800X3D so yeah this is fine

I use the amd stealth cooler that came with my 3600 for my 7800X3D, does an absolutely fine job. Most coolers should be fine 🙂

This thread kind of concerned me, I have a 7800x3d with a galahad 2 360 rad and like 10 other case fans in an O11 evo rgb but was seeing almost 90 degrees on watch dogs 2. Is it worth reapplying thermal paste? Fan curve is set to standard
Hell yeah it will . Granted you have proper case flow. Can be just as good at least as an AIO.
A cooler should indicate what tdp is can cool. Compare that to your cpu. If the cpu is less than or equal to the amount listed, it should be fine.
The only question after that is how loud it gets to meet its tdp rating.
I wouldn’t buy that for 7800X3D if it has only 3 heatpipes. Someone said here that the ak400 is rated 220W and the cpu has TDP of 125W. In idle or browsing-multimedia-office tasks, the cooler may cool down the cpu but in high cpu loads i believe the cpu will get hot like super hot.
If you already bought it, show us the cpu temps while stress testing (prime96 or rendering)

It cools my 5800X pretty well under full load for 10+ hours.
I have the AK500 (which is larger) and it’s chilling at 70 mostly while gaming but peaks at mid 80s for the max temp.
It also depend if you have a good airflow inside your case

i had that but then upgraded to the ak620 because during gaming it was getting into the high 70’s sometimes low 80s, now it never hits 75.
Only high end intel cpu’s require aftermarket cooling
I could slap on some used Noctua from 2009 and it will work fine.
Most people I’ve heard/read about that owns the 7800X3D keeps talking about it running at like 50-55c idle. That’s just a lot.
