I’ve been playing King’s Field IV recently on the Playstation 2 and godamn it kinda slaps. It’s clunky as hell with a turn speed as slow as molasses, but it genuinely has the best atmosphere and music out of any RPG i’ve ever played. The loot & enemies are varied and the progression works just like it does in Dark Souls – a fully interconnected world with different areas to visit, explore & unlock.
This game is somehow awesome and terrible at the same time, but it’s absolutely an experience not like any other. I’d love to see FromSoft modernize the series with everything they’ve learned from Souls/Elden Ring and make a King’s Field V, but I am fully aware this is just a pipedream. In the meantime Lunacid is a pretty good ‘Kingsfield-like’ and Monomyth looks promising from it’s demo (yet to be released on Steam).

I played this game when I was young and couldn’t remember the name of it but I had fun with it. It had just enough of what I needed at the time. I remember it had a horrible frame rate at times but I thought the graphics were incredible.

Loved King’s Field IV when I was a kid. I’ve always wondered what a modern King’s Field would look/play like.

King’s Field is great and so is Shadow Tower! I had a hard time getting into playing the games myself because of the controls and the movement speed, but they’re fun to watch others play. It’s really cool to see where the Moonlight Sword came from before you could get it in the SoulsBorne games.

I’m still holding out hope for a revival of Kings Field, in VR.

No, before there was Dark Souls, there was Demon’s Souls.

If you like this game, or just games in general, play Lunacid.

I’ve been watching a friend play this on occasion.
We started, took like 10 steps, then the floor beneath us killed him instantly.
If that’s not a FromSoft moment, I don’t know what is.

Loved this game, I was better at it than I am at Elden Ring thats for sure.
Starting with such slow movement and attack speed made really planning your moves super important.
