I don’t even want AI capabilities in my software most of the time. The use cases are so damn specific that I really don’t see why I’d want to pay anything extra for having it processed in house.

It will be better for all these companies to concentrate their efforts on how to make effective, power efficient, stable and affordable HARDWARE, rather than making marketing tricks and other stuff to delude the people to buy some overpriced products with little to no of any actual usage in real life and benefit for the workflows and etc.

Humanity first AI is the only AI I will support. Any AI developed with a profit first mentality should be shunned and avoided entirely. Profit first AI is without a doubt a threat to humanity.
When you think about the world we live in today, rife with hatred and fear mongering on the internet….and you think about the lack of guardrails on companies and how they can manipulate the content you see on social media…imagine an AI doing that with even more precision. AI will destroy us if we don’t control these companies that are investing outrageous sums of money to build the best AI they can.

I actually want my next laptop to be ARM-based, but only for the battery life. The AI stuff I’m ok with, but only if the privacy concerns are addressed. Windows Recall killed off a lot of potential buzz that could have been created. Then I think Apple created a similar scare. So, it seems like these NPUs come with a major caveat. If that’s the case, then I’d rather take a non-AI laptop chip that is just great on battery life. I would hope AMD could deliver that, but they’re hopping on the AI bandwagon too. I might be screwed.

Everyone I use the Google Assistant it asks me if I want to try Gemini (it’s Google’s new AI assistant) and I always say no.
To work properly these AIs need to know everything about you and what you do on your devices, and although I know Google tracks all of that anyway, it still feels invasive to give consent for them to track my entire life.
The case is even worse for Ai chat bots built into apps. If I want to talk to an AI I’ll use the app or go to the website, I don’t need a different one for everything

I think the AI applications that take off are the ones that are transparently useful and are desirable for what they actually do not how they do it.
Right now AI is mostly becoming a marketing buzzword thing they try to shoehorn into everything even though it provides no actual benefit or in some cases isn’t even AI.
I’d be unwilling to pay extra for AI enhanced software as I’m yet to be sold on why I should.

Even Apple didn’t have people paying extra specifically for the neural engine when they launched m1. It was just a CPU package that had features. Now because “AI” is a buzz word they think they can charge extra over it when in reality it’s still just a CPU package with features
