AAA games have lost any and all creativity

  1. To be fair, Overwatch x Transformers could work. I think they fumbled half the pack, but it could potentially work. COD and Battlefield lost their originality and vision a decade ago, tho.

AAA gaming has been in what I call the “pig slop” phase for a while now. It’s all just mixed up garbage for you to gorge yourself on without any real quality, taste or creativity.

Just a big trough of “game”. Eat up swine!

  3. halonone

As long as people buy those skins, they won’t think so.

  4. Pretty sure it’s been like this for at least a decade now.

Honestly I’m not sure what to do with this. I’m not sure it’s entirely true. We have games like The Last of Us 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn which are creative and do things that other games aren’t doing. But it’s hard to argue against this because so many of the AAA games are not very creative and they just do the same old stuff over and over.

I totally understand these kinds of posts but what does this mean for the people who genuinely enjoy having two of their favorite pieces of media crossover?

Like honestly it’s hard for me to even be mad when I think about it that way. Sure, it seems like theirs no creativity but crossovers can also just be fun for the sake of being.

It’s less that they’ve lost creativity and more that they saw Fortnite making bank with a shit ton of crossovers, so they want to do it too.

but we’ve still got games like Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 3, Tears of the Kingdom, etc.

I rather not call these AAA games we should call them a new label I’d say Corporate games

  9. wakespike

That is why I switched to Managed Democracy.

  10. slumblebee

I’m still waiting for a big budget transformers game and yet hasbro just gives the license to these shitty companies that can’t make decent games and meh skins.

  11. DaubstickFarbspinkle

Remember when we wanted more cool collabs? Before fortnite and CoD took away all the novelty of it and made it a standardized corporate sellout procedure?

  12. Deimos_Aeternum

Crossovers like these would be mind blowing in the 90’s but corporate greed has made them sickening.

  13. MaxStrengthLvlFly

Buy indie, honestly. If AAA games aren’t providing you joy then give your money to the developers that actually put effort into unique mechanics and fun systems. The big developers will follow the money.

  14. Cloud_N0ne

I’ve always thought crossovers were lazy and boring, but they’re everywhere lately

  15. This whole mobile trend of “*Let’s do crossover events and destroy canon!”* needs to die.

Nobody wants this shit. I think it was CoD that had a Nikki Minaj pack and it was like **just why; who asked for that?!?**

  16. Volteezy

I disagree. Sony first party AAA games are good.

Edit: I could agree if it’s AAA multiplayer games.

  17. Yeah. But for a split second – just a second – I got excited about Transformers x Overwatch.

Then I remember Overwatch isn’t the game it used to be. And if I want wacky crossovers, I can play Fortnite – which makes no effort to hide what it is or what it does.

  18. Magical-Manboob

AAA has been a dirty word for a long time now

  19. skellyhuesos

Yeah but y’all still buy them and their microtransactions.

  20. Heavy-Possession2288

That’s crazy because I’ve been playing the Elden Ring DLC recently and that’s super fun and creative. But sure some AAA shooters have introduced crossover skins gaming is dead.

  21. LetsGoChamp19

    *games as a service

AAA gaming is in a fantastic spot right now. Don’t act like every AAA game is like is. Other AAA devs exist other than just EA, Ubisoft and ActiBlizz

  22. NebulaHades

Why the fuck would homelander even pick up a gun? Man has more firepower than a railgun in one finger

  23. Pot-Papi_

I mean, let’s be honest people buy this junk. If you’re gonna complain that they’re not being creative but like 80% of the population of gamers by this shit, why would they stop making cheap crap and selling it you’re going to eat up the content anyway

  24. It’s really just live service AAA games. AAA games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 that do new things still exist.

  25. TheCode555

This is honestly the type of thing I wanted to see in the early 2000s. I don’t hate the idea. They’re just doing it wrong.

They’re not celebrating the collab, it’s just an obvious cash grab.

I think Mortal Kombat does it right. It’s more money but it feels they like they put thought into it; unique voice lines, references, unique fighting styles.

Smash Ultimate is another one that I think got it right.

  26. CubedTaco1

He’s mad at collaborations! oh no! Nobody tell him about Fortnite

  27. The_Lat_Czar

Nah, just gotta know where to look. Look at certain single player games like Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate, pretty much any Nintendo game, etc.. You also have AA and indie games that have more experimental, creative gameplay.

  28. WiskeyGinger

I dont play COD but i think its pretty cool. Id love to play as fallout, homelander, etc

  29. datsupportguy

Ah yes, I forgot all AAA games are first person shooters 🙄

  30. Nutholey

I find almost all these crossover things lazy and annoying. Most of the time, I will stop playing a game once this nonsense begins.

  31. UsedToHaveATail

Homelander with a gun yeah that’s normal

Maybe if he’s using it like a baseball bat

  32. Problematique_

I’m so tired of the IP slop. I miss when Call of Duty was just about army guys but you get downvoted in the Modern Warfare subs for saying so. I’ve clearly aged out of the target market.
