So, you did not just blow in the cartridge and the console like normal people did ?

Looks like a game gear cleaner as well

Hey I recognize that I’m old in this picture.

Impressive. My kit consisted of a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and q tips. That also worked fine on the 1541 heads

I definitely remember the brush/cleaner in the lower left hand corner.

Holy crap! I had this kit too. I have not thought about that in a long time.

I just recently found out that one of the big problems was that when the contacts got dirty, the game might still be able to work, but the security system (the part that made sure you could only play official nintendo carts) wouldn’t be able to work so it would do the constant restart thing.

The frustrating thing for all the time I and others spent blowing into the carts is how easy it is to take it apart to clean the contacts and disable the security chip. You cut one leg off and it still runs but it can’t reset the console anymore. You could show a smart 10 year old how to do it.

    But nobody knew…

I remember wedging in a 2nd NES game into the console on top of the game I was trying to play to force it down, because, and I don’t know why – it made it work.
