This latest addition to the rig will bring it to a total capacity of 16TB. In the process of swapping it out, found my original 1TB that Linus said would be good enough for the foreseeable future when I built my first pc almost 10 years ago. (I truly believed him)

I would say it was good enough for the foreseeable, if you’re only swapping it out after ten years, no?
Newer HDDs aren’t too much faster than older ones, but they are a lot more reliable.
I am most curious about what you need that space for far more than a picture of two normal hard drives.
There’s not much stats on the physical label for a comparison here.. adding price and price per GB would be nice. Foreseeable future back then.. how many years can we see into the future at any given point? One, two, three years? I’d bet money right now that no one can accurately predict what the world will like in 5 years. Just mostly surprised if you had a crappy seagate spinning for 10 years. Had that same model and it died pretty quick (seagate and especially that model are known for high defect rates).

Least strongest HDD, say what you want on the speed but these things last a good decade.
My build only has 1TB and I’ve never ran out of space. Glad I didn’t go with more.
I have one of these 8tb in my PC right now. It’s housed the Plex library for a few years. Ol reliable.
The new HDD 8TB is SMR and the old 1TB HDD is CMR. I hope you will be lucky and that 8TB will live decades without problems.
Hahahahaha your old hard drive is actually faster. The old 1TB HDD is CMR, the new Barracuda 8TB is SMR. SMR sucks balls compared to USB 2.0 FLASH DRIVES. Yeah this is the particular reason why I don’t have a problem buying pre-2014 drives, they are all guaranteed to be CMR.
I have both in my PC right now.
