Net booting like a thin client isn’t new, but doing it from a cloud service is ridiculous!

    Warning: Incoming prediction

You know how apple only gives you a tiny ssd without a massive price hike? next up is no ssd and an even more massive price hike for more cloud storage via subscription.

stop! hide this knowledge! Do we want computers to become subscription services where you need internet access to even get to your own files? Because this might be how to do it.

The progression in the article makes me think of the expanding brain meme

(Small brain) Boot from local storage

(Normal brain) Boot from network drive

(Galaxy brain) Boot from Google Drive

(Universe brain) Boot from attachments saved in draft emails in Gmail

Convenient until Google shuts down your account. Doesn’t matter what’s in the ToS they will find a reason if you did something they don’t like.
