After many years of service it is finally time to retire my ancient mx518 from 2005 and replace it with the Cooler Master mm730. Press F to pay respects.
My dad gave me his 2005 mx518 when I built my PC and I have used it ever since. Lately it started showing signs of aging with the right click so I decided that the time came to replace it. I'll definitely keep it as a backup mouse tho.
Every single mouse I’ve had except for the G502 lasted me about 2 years max.

Signs of aging? It’s shows signs of either being used as body armor or being subject to many angry game nights. Either way, it’s time for retirement.
Also, I’m sure your gaming habits have matured over the last 20 years, but in case they haven’t, breathing exercises might extend the life of this new mouse. Modern mice aren’t built like tanks and can’t be the disgruntled gamer’s punching bag anymore.

I loved my mx518, sadly lost it when I moved back in 2012
Amazing mouse

I still use my mx518. Works like a charm. Let’s hope it lasts another 10 years.

I have the same mouse. I literally found it at a rubbish tip about 10 years ago. It’s still working perfectly.

You weren’t using it properly!
It should’ve been dead around 2015, like mine, from excessive gaming.

the mx518 was so good I had like 3 of them (never died I just liked the colors)

I bought the remastered one they released a few years back, it’s the best mouse design ever imo. My G5 from the same time era works still, but the scroll wheel is a little wonky.

The number of people that don’t realize the “dents” are just part of the design pattern is ridiculous.

I’m stick rocking my mx510 from 2004!
Great mouse.

I’ve had the exact same mouse since I bought my first PC back in 2009. Still going strong. Will be a sad day when it dies.

I had the same mouse for like 10 years. I miss it but there are some other good mice out there.

I specifically stock up on MX518, they can take it from my cold, dead hands. Nothing else feels right.

I wish I held onto some of my old gaming gear from when I was younger. They tended to not last too long, especially the mice or controllers. It didn’t help that I often bought used and am a clumsy person. I’d usually just throw them out when they were done.
But I’d love to have some of them now and display them. The sentimental value of gaming items has definitely increased as I’ve gotten older. A real shame that I’m only seeing that after decades of throwing shit out or selling older stuff.
What do you think you’re gonna do with it OP? If you end up displaying it, I’d love to see how you do so

Massive downgrade….

Hey OP, Logitech makes a new MX518 with a hero sensor if you wanted a modern direct replacement.

That mouse is older than some of the people on this sub. May your next one last just as long.
