Either suicide or sucking up to Arasaka. The phantom liberty is also a close contender for me even though it’s more of a bittersweet end (V may be cured, but they lose almost all their friends and the night city they knew, while also having to leave their whole merc life behind. At least they still got Viktor and Misty)

The saddest ending is the end of the game.

Temperance after going with Rogue to Arasaka Tower. >!Watching Johnny bury two friends and leave NC made my heart sink.!<The Tower is just as bad, though I debate myself as to whether it’s less or more sad.

I’d say the Arasaka ending was the *worst* ending, not the saddest. Suicide was the most emotional for me.

In my opinion the saddest ending is the Phantom Liberty ending where you go with Reed and you are in a coma for 2 years.
Because when you wake up, all of your friends, your partner, they’ve all moved on and forgotten you.
You return to NC and you have nothing, no one. And you can’t use any cyberware, so you’re just a nobody, a regular person.
I think it hurt me the most l just because I kinda relate to that feeling of having no one and just being a nobody.

Saddest, but somewhat deserved: Tower. You lose (almost) everyone, in the worst way possible. Life has moved on, you’ll never use cyberware again, which essentially means that you are on a silver platter in NC. Your romance option abandons you. And the whole thing happens by sucking up to the FIA and giving up Songbird.
Saddest in concept: Devil. You become a servant to Arasaka, resurrect a Japanese Empire-loving quasi-fascist, and betray every common citizen of NC. Plus Johnny.
Saddest in general: suicide. Just horrible. The worst. Actually a pretty good anti-suicide message. You still have a chance, but you choose to not fight at all. Though if you haven’t unlocked DFTR, you will always hurt another person for a brief extension of your life. So hey, who deserves their life more?

The Arasaka ending where you go back to earth.
You fought all the way up Arasaka Tower, killed Smasher, and overthrew Yorinobu for what? Just to go back to earth for 6 months and die from an illness?
May as well just become corporate property on the chance they put you into a new body.
Suicide ending is sad but it’s one of the better endings. Yorinobu remains in control of Arasaka, none of Vs friends die, no Arasaka employees die unnecessarily.
