I personally define something decent when I feel like it’s decent.

You can get a lot of quality monitors in the sub-$200 USD range now. I bought a 27″ 1440p 165 hz IPS brand new for $180 after tax. (I do also have a 4k” ultrawide but prefer the 27″ for FPS gaming.)
Tarkov is a particular game because it *loves* 3d cache. The graphics aren’t that demanding; it just wants the fastest single-core processor available.

I disagree with his main point. I think most people would be quite happy on a $600-800 system (Ryzen 5600 + 3060 ti), or a $500 used system. (Remember that there are literally hundreds of millions of console gamers out there, having a great time on what would be “mid-range” systems.)
The issue is that the computer industry relies on stratification and highlighting minute differences between parts – a processor might only be 3% faster, which no one could possibly notice in real life, but there is an entire industry about finding those differences to justify upgrades.
People, especially this poster, fall for that and make it a big issue.
Komodo760
this guy’s definition of “decent” is probably playing the latest unoptimized AAA game at 120fps 4k, it really depends on the person and what they think is acceptable

This dude is the reason nvidia thinks they can price their gpu’s at 1600+ dollars.

Anything below 10k is low budget gaming for me. /s
RentonZero
So his definition of a decent GPU is only a 4090. Seems about right
tankersss
You can get 7800/7900GRE for $500 or less, and it’s enough to get through 1440p ultra and even some 4k gaming.
As for cheaper cards, 6600xt is for like $200-250 and there is still 6700 for $250-300.

Past a certain point it’s just mindless consumerism, people buy shinier and more expensive things thinking it will fix the void in their soul

Brother, 240euros is a minimum wage in some places in the world, man is so out of touch it’s sickening.

He’s an idiot.
I actually do have the kind of set up he’s talking about, all in my entire set up is easily 7 grands worth and I absolutely love it, but before I could afford this I enjoyed gaming just fine on low and mid range systems for a decade.

So I purchased Pax Dei recently, my rig:
Ryzen 5 3600
RX 580 (8gb)
16gb DDR4 RAM
2TB NVMe
Game runs at 40 FPS. Head into game files, turn off reflections and ambient lighting, 80 FPS. Turn off all post processing and such? 120 FPS, game looks like its 10 years old but playable. I’ll stick with 80 FPS and fair graphics.
Most of the new titles these days require insane graphics cards for lighting effects that when disabled could run on 10 year old graphics cards.
Yes, the lighting looks pretty but 90% of the time in online games at least its the first thing to be disabled along with motion blur and bloom because it makes you less competitive.
Global-Pickle5818
I payed 600$ for a 6900 xt seems to run everything iv thrown at it at 2k at over 100 fps with no upscale, now retracing that’s where you’re going to play a pretty penny .. I don’t play tarkov though I hear that game is badly optimized and full of hackers
Issues3220
I paid 450€ for my decent gpu, and I play everything almost maxed out.
Numerous-Champion256
I’m on a $250 refurbished 1440p/144 27” BenQ and 3060 Ti and everything plays more than fine at 1440 on high settings.
Why would you upgrade a AM4 system? You’ll just end up spending more money in the long run. Wait until you can upgrade to a motherboard with more long term capabilities
HamsterbackenBLN
How do you upgrade an am4 PC for 240€? Mobo, R5 7600, DDR5 cost around at least 500€

I’m all for getting a job, but I ain’t about to start working!

average person needs $300 gpu and $100 monitor.
$1200 monitor and $1000 gpu is the premium user.

Bro literally has no idea what he’s talking about.
He’s probably a 30-year old man living in his mom’s basement, where $1,000 is just a “decent” monitor. I guess when you don’t have bills or a family to worry about, you can justify those types of purchases and tell people who think that’s expensive to “get a job”.
Basic-Meaning-4111
He’s kind of right about tarkov. I’ve played tarkov on a 1060 and Ryzen 3700x. It was a good experience I was on 1080p low and medium but to be fair I was only play customs and reserve. Now i wouldn’t to play interchange or shoreline I’d switch to “pvp” settings. Turning on mip streaming lowering some other settings and having a BLAST.
NebraskaGeek
Fuck that. You can get an awesome 32″ 1440p 144hz monitor at many places for like $200. Those puppies aren’t even TN panels anymore. This is someone who is completely disconnected from the budget pc world.
Hollow_Apollo
It shouldn’t be too hard to deduce that those that can afford a higher end build are fortunate. Shit has gotten insanely expensive but for PC it feels it’s outpaced most other things.
As far as what is typically used, no deduction needed. You look at something like Steam and most people are not running 4090s and 4080s.
Also even if you can afford it, it may not make sense to go high end. There was just some post yesterday about some guy who wanted $4k “firm” for a 4090 build and realized afterwards that they were computer illiterate.

Out of touch. It’s nice when you can afford a system like that but it’s far from the norm.

Fuck this classist piece of shit. $1000 is two full weeks’ pay for most of us – yeah that’s fairly doable but in no reality is that cheap
Luzi_fer
Spend so much on computer…. and it’s getting worse and worse when I look at the final price.
I know, I work, Basically I can afford all the thing I got and pay them easy…. but Oh MY god, those price are insane… the thing that save me is that I finished to pay my house and cars.
For the price of a 4080S….. you had a complete computer with a gtx 1070 or gtx 1080( a decent complete computer ) back in the days.
And I found that already insane.
nemanja694
It is nothing for people living in well developed countries where they can spare few thousands dollars for a computer, now tell that to many people who live in developing countries where 200 dollars is too much. Not all but good amount of people don’t know to look past their house when talking about other people choices for parts or anything in general.
