Most used screen is centered with the other two on either side. So if I had only two monitors it would be the first option.
The second option is heresy.
1 100% 2 is for maniacs unless the monitors are perfectly paired and used as one
1, 2 must be bad for your neck
I use nr2 due to limited width on my desk. I got some distance to the monitors so the angle is not that great.
2, with another monitor mounted on top in the center for discord.

I use 2 but the monitors are curved which helps. I use the one on the right for discord.
2 is for psychopaths
I understand the 2 option when it’s for work, but for gaming, I cannot find a way that 2 > 1
I use 2 ever since I got 2 monitors. Curved monitors set up like that almost makes a perfect giant screen. Still only game on the left one tho. I can just rotate my chair slightly and see it straight on.
Depends what for but I used to do 1 with the off centre one in landscape

I have my main monitor right in front of my and my secondary (laptop) off to the right.

I’m currently using the 1st setup since the 2nd setup was very uncomfortable when gaming.
I use #2 because speaker placement is more important to me
One big ass ultrawide FTW.
I use 1. I don’t want to stare at the border between the monitors, plus, my monitors are different anyway.

On sim rigs (3 displays) I would keep the main display centered and secondary and third one on sides angled.
But for multimedia and work the 2nd option works best as both monitors will stay in line of sight and easy on your posture and neck, and these conclusions are based on my actual use cases. It may vary from person to person so no one can blame other orientations as people use what’s comfortable for them, some people also use secondary monitor as vertical or top mounted, once again this is based on work cases and what’s comfortable to them personally ☺️💕
Option 1 if you mainly use one monitor and only occasionally glance at the second one.
Option 2 if you use information on both. But in this case a larger single monitor might be a better option, and I don’t see how this situation can happen in gaming.

1, with a Chromebook under the off center monitor, for no real good reason TBH.

I think 2 is better for ergonomics. I solved this issue with a 3 monitor setup. One centered, the other two off set on either side.
I don’t think anyone enjoys seeing the ass crack of monitors when looking straight ahead.
My main monitor in front and a much smaller side monitor mounted vertically.
