IIRC it has level based scaling so you can just stay low lvl and slaughter everything unless they changed something.

I could never get into the leveling system in this game, found it weird
necrocis85
Did it always look this bad? God it seemed so realistic looking back in 2006.
Dynamitrios
Best entry in the series imo
sampman69
The story and vast map to explore were superior to Skyrim. Oblivion is to elder scrolls as mass effect 2 is to its series.
Zendien
Thought this was Morrowind for a second. For some weird reason I never played Oblivion
adamkex
Great game but I disliked the levelling system

Mournhold city of light, city of magic.

Oblivion is honestly really good. The quality of the quests and stuff are about as good as skyrim (probably slightly better even). And the shattered isles dlc is probably the best elders scrolls content period.
The thing is that the character building and levelling system is super obtuse and you can end up gimped very easily. And paradoxically, the way to end up with a strong character is to level things they dont specialize in.
What made skyrim so good in comparison is that the levelling system was way more fair in terms of making sure you character was good at things you wanted them to be good at.

Spent more time playing, modding oblivion then I spent time playing skyrim lol

“this game”… Help me I’m old and don’t recognize every game on sight

I replayed this again recently, it has a charm and a lot of jank

Just remembered the paint brushes and dupe glitches, how life changing it was at the time.

Idk why, says more about the mods you got imo.
The world had a lot of vast nothingness. Yeah it’s big but there’s not much sense in exploring many dungeons because they’re not unique. The graphics weren’t good for its time. The NPC dialogue is meme’d for a reason. There were too few VAs which tbf Skyrim has that issue also. I will say this though I liked the city designs in the game and how different the architecture was for each city. Some quests were amazing and the shivering isles is goated. Past that though? Some people got rose-tinted glasses cause man, that game had issues. The worst part is some of those issues, namely the animations, carried onto every other title since. If nothing else, if Skyblivion is ever finished the dungeon stuff is something they are addressing so there’ll be more incentive to go to areas that you might’ve otherwise not went through once you’ve gotten to a point you don’t have to visit dungeons that don’t have a unique questline tied to it. Modding it addresses some of those issues but I could be wrong on this since its been years, the modding for oblivion compared to skyrim/fallout 4 was a pain in the ass to set up.

Nothing gives that RPG feeling better than Oblivion.
GinchAnon
wait til you try Morrowind.
ThunderSparkles
The art design and color popped. There’s a lot of flaws but also it feels more magical and that medieval fantasy just hits more here. Skyrim made improvements but it was so drab. Also the creatures were less varied and the weapons didn’t pop as much. Getting a glass sword in Oblivion was mind blowing

There was definitely something special about Oblivion. It still had that “fantasy simulator” feeling that older ES games had, if that makes sense. Skyrim was great, but it was definitely a turning point for Bethesda in terms of design philosophy.
MisterWafflles
I actually like Oblivion way more than Skyrim. Something about the graphics being worse or the actual color that isn’t grey looks way better. The mechanics are a little chunky but I love it way more. Only mod I use for Oblivion is 1mil gold

What game is this for us uncultured swine?
viperfangs92
It has better questlines
BetweenTheDeadAndMe
I remember seeing oblivion in game informer magazines years before it came out and just being absolutely amazed by the graphics as a kid. When I finally played it; I was just dumb founded by the beauty of it all. Now I see pictures of it and just think man this looks like a polished turd lol.
Helmnauger
I want a full-on Oblivion remake. Like what Demon Souls got.
