I am the happy owner of a very problematic back, and I would like to take care of its health while sitting at the computer all day. After much searching, I realized that I needed advice from experienced users. The main questions I had to face were: soft chair or mesh? Is it permissible in my case to save money and use a plywood base? Maybe this is not so bad, after all, the main thing is the form? What should you pay attention to when choosing so as not to completely ruin your back?

Don’t get any Ikea chairs or gaming chairs in general, unless you wanna ruin your back.

  8. Steven hawking has a nice one. He spends a tone of time in it and it must be comfy

    Get a good office chair.

If you spend allot of time in front of a PC you will fuck up your back eventually if you sit in a cheap crappy chair all the time. This includes gaming chairs

I‘m 37 and very tall and have had back problems here and there, but they‘ve gone away since i got an herman miller aeron

  10. For me a gaming chair look like this “Ikea STYRSPEL red/grey.”

I bought a refurbished Steelcase chair that is really good, $300 for the Amia which new is $1000

Steelcase Leap V2 or Herman Miller Aeron. Both can be found on Craigslist of Facebook marketplace for about $300 if you’re patient.

I have hip and back issues and bought 2 Leap V2 chairs, one for home and one for work. I do not regret at all

Check BTOD.com if you are in the US. They have refurbished Steelcase chairs that cost $900-$1200 new for around half of the price. They reupholster and put a new cylinder on the chairs, so you’re just getting a chair minor cosmetic imperfections. They also come with a 12yr warranty.

I got a weird corsair model 2 years ago. But for a “gaming” chair it holds up pretty well. I doesnt have most of the common issues gaming chairs have. Like the fake leather shit that really easily peels off after a year. Or the annoying race chair elements.

Its like a mix out of office chair and gaming chair. Its holding up really well. And the chair itself is still like the day i bought it. But the arm rests are shitty and already pretty used up.

Edit: its not just flat at the back like most gaming chairs but has the actual shape your back needs. I know this is normal for office chairs but most gaming chairs just dont give a f about ergonomics

    Corsair tc70

Its cheaper than most not shitty chairs you are gonna find. I bought it for 250 2 years ago so maybe less now. Way cheaper than secret lab or herman miller. I bought it because of the price. Most chairs under 200 bucks get really used up after a year. So i wanted to get something after the threshhold that has ergonomic design but isnt a straight up office chair. Im heavy so i dont trust the nets most of the office chairs are using but this corsair thing holds up so well.

It doesnt matter if you use 5000$ office chair, or your grandmas wooden stool, you will prawn either way

To fix this, you need a monitor holder arm, to move the monitor closer to you, instead of you moving closer to the monitor

Alternatively, take out a chair from a car. Those are engineerer for sitting over 4 hours without getting up, while the office chair are engineered for 30 minutes.

Look for office chairs, not gaming chairs. Gaming chairs are meant to look cool, while an office chair is meant to sit in for long periods of time.

Office chairs have an “hour” rating, meaning how many hours it would be considered comfortable to sit in. I got 4 hour chair from Autonomous for around $300 and I absolutely love it. Had it about 4 years now, and aside from the wheels getting gunked up with hair(I have long hair and 2 cats) it’s still in damn near perfect condition.
