I really wish this crisis ends and that everyone who got laid off will find a new job in gaming

Thats because japan works differently, they stop giving tasks and basically shame people into quitting instead

A nice sentiment, but FromSoftware’s consistent success means he doesn’t have to worry about it. The real test will come if FromSoftware starts dropping the ball. I hope that never happens, though.

These guys put out hit after hit it shouldn’t even be in the realm of possibility for fromsoft.

I hope this post doesn’t end up on r/agedlikemilk in a couple years.

  6. Culturally and legally, mass layoffs aren’t a thing in Japan the way they are in America. Even if this dude wanted to lay off 15% workforce I’m not sure he could lol.

Remember how a few years ago was the unprecedented spree of acquisitions across gaming? Japanese studios were mostly not a part of that.

I suspect that recent layoffs like Tango gameworks mean that even if a Western publisher wants to acquire a Japanese studio in the future, they probably don’t want to sell. If someone felt any responsibility for their employees then they wouldn’t sell to a western publisher.

His comment is the difference between a studio that values talent and making art and studios that want to ship a hit game and funnel all the profits to people who did not make it.

  8. I hope more people will follow his example. Layoffs are a terrible thing.

It’s a shame that FromSoft pays their employees peanuts. Quite infamous for it in the game dev workforce in Japan. Last I heard about as bad as or worse than Nintendo.

Gamers and Gaming ‘Journalists’ acting like this is a decision made on whim alone.

its a lot easier not to lay off employees when they are paid as little as from soft employees are.

well, he don’t have to… I heard there’s a lot of turnovers due to working conditions.
