That game was great…some of the private servers were also fantastic. Everyone going around PVP areas asura striking everyone haha

  2. Very nostalgic. I remember my account getting hacked. Lol

This was my first MMO. Great times were had on RO back in the day. I think the guild my friend got me into was Unity or something that started with a U maybe. My main job during WoE was buffing people on my bard if I recall. Using the Double Strafe trick to level on those purple mud hand things in one of the GH maps was really fun too or popping open some DB’s on bots was always fun.

    – binge RO for a few months.
    – get burned out and quit for a year or two
    – listen to Prontera BGM on YouTube, get overwhelmed with nostalgia and re-download the game

Been on that cycle for like 15 years, it’s not a matter of if, but when I’ll return to RO, given there’s still decent Private servers around

  6. In the early days it was so fun. Being an acolyte and charging people for portals. Then being a troll and opening up one to a dangerous location because people always try to catch a free ride.

Oh GOD. What a flashback. I got into iRO when I was 13 and it was a gateway drug. The MINDLESS grinding, the mystery of not having any info on anything in the game at all, the mind-boggingly crazy experience thresholds from level 90 to 99.. needless to say, I had a 92 knight. The WoE fights (Payon!), the drama in the forums and boards, which alliance takes which castles, it was like a live soap opera. The coordination was insane and unassisted. You needed so many people online at the same time, doing the right things for hours.. when we moved to WoW, raids with 40 people were a breeze to organize.

PS: If you don’t know RO, think of it like this. The only way to gain Exp was killing mobs, nothing else. There are no quests in this game. Max level was 99. From a certain point in the early 90’s onward, you need to play roughly 2 or 3 hours for 1% of Exp. You can’t grind easy trash mobs, that would probably make it 10 hours for 1%. You need to grind mobs that kill you if you make a single mistake. If you die, you lose 1% Exp. On the maps where you would need to do your grinding, Boss mobs would spawn about once per hour. These mobs are crazy fast and will probably one hit you. Have fun!

    Dude.

    This game taught me economics.

I still jam to the OST.

(BTW, if anyone knows where to get just the soundtrack that’d be great)

  9. anyone who thinks that souls like are difficult has never tried leveling on RO… they make me feel tender

  10. This game is cultural phenomenal, it’s the beginning of the golden age of MMO in my country, I remember buying playtime voucher just to play the game, but I’m poor so i can only afford the 10 hour game playtime one lol

I recently got into my photo bucket account to see if there was anything saving before i deleted my account and it was FULL of screen shots from RO.

I don’t remember much of it but I remember I spent hours on it and had some great times.

  12. When i see RO i instantly am reminded about Gaia online.
