According to the Shadowman, once Richtofen was inside the Dark Mechanism, it would use his blood to ‘‘open the way to the paradise below,’’ aka, free the Apothicons from the Dark Aether.
So, why didn't any of that happen? Great War Richtofen's cleansing of Alcatraz didn't disable the Dark Mechanism, it was still siphoning Richtofen's blood.
What gives? Did the Apothicons forget to invade?? The gateway opened, and they did NOTHING?! Are they actually stupid?

Because BO4 was a half-assed attempt to forcefully retcon a story that they had overtly ended.
