Is there any resource available to find out how the damage works? I had a C4 on a wall next to three guys and it only did 50 DMG on one guy. Did we use it improperly? Should it be placed inside?

There is definitely a radius.
You know the apartments at school? If a c4 is placed on one corner you can survive it by hunkering in the opposite corner.
I heard somewhere that mortars have the same radius as c4.
