Have him steal the 3080 and put something else in there. If it’s never been turned on it’s not like anyone will notice.

It’s waiting for the second coming.

If your just letting it sit unused then why not just put it in storage? May as well.

It’s probably the bosses gaming computer that he wants to claim as a buisiness expense. Probably plays it when everyone’s gone

believe it or not but on some projects you pack up a top of the line pc (or 3) in mint condition and let it gather dust. This way 10 years down the line when you need to fix critical bug you have hardware, software and all the other tools to do that.
Back in 2010 we had 2 cases like this in the warehouse from a discontinued project. Project was motion controller for 3D drawing and video games. I will never understand why they dropped it…
We weren’t allowed to do any changes in our office computers, only IT was allowed. Couldn’t even install any software.
Long story short, we said fuck it, swapped the cases and installed couple of games “TO TEST COLOR AND SOUND QUALITY OF NEW 85″ OFFICE DISPLAYS”, the 85″ display was bad in sound quality because of the backplate they designed (wrong shape and metal? WTF) and project got cancelled instead of fixing it, again idk why.
So yeah. Just take it apart and use it, nobody will know.

Same man. We used to have a guy doing 3d modeling stuff no longer do so his giga machine with a 3080 has been sat on the cupboard for 2 years.

i guess they like watching it decay over time while looking new.

The solution, of course, is to take the card out of the PC. That way the PC remains unpowered.
Think outside the box, show some initiative, and disrupt the existing order in order to leverage the power you need and enable business… enablement!

Nothing is sadder than seeing a beast in a cage.

I wonder how long it will take for somebody to realize if the GPU and memory are gone.
But the SSD is going to *fucking DIE* without power supply in 6 months to 2 years?
why though
