I've never played PUBG until 2024. I've play EFT, Valorant, CS, Destiny, Rust, The FINALS, Arena breakout, Warzone, H1z1 BR, Rainbow six, and many other shooters but never touched PUBG.

Picked it up recently with friends and actually have been enjoying it, feels like an old school BR. But what I'm so confused about is how do skins work??? There is like 15 UI menus and 15 different currencies lol. Is there a steam marketplace, is there a website where I can see all the skins in the game like how rust has this https://rustlabs.com/skins ?

PUBG’s skin scheme is complicated because player base is not too demanding. PUBG is in category of it’s own so if a player still plays PUBG they probably don’t care much about how complicated purchases are.
    So in short:
    – you can buy stuff for BP which are earned by playing, for G-coins which are purchased for real money or sometimes obtainable in the game for free
    – you can obtain items from “passes” which are now bought for real money (presumably because there’s too much G-coins floating and PUBG needs actual cash to operate)
    – there’s whole separate world of “crates” and “crafting” and “hideout” which I’d advise you never get into because they’re fully random (all outcomes are independent with some small exceptions) and certainly keep yourself away from “progressive” weapon skins because obtaining the “currencies” for upgrades is an abomination (you cannot just buy the upgrades directly even with real cash and doing it for free is tiresome) except:
    – there are free pyramids which are awarded for playing (10x max every day, don’t forget to click them in top right corner when you are done playing because they are not awarded automatically) which give you some skins for free and you can buy hunter’s chests for BP which contain more skins than pyramids
    – you can buy quite a lot of hideout coupons for BP (50 each week) and earn them in TDM (10 per week) and get a sizeable amount to then try some luck in getting the skins you want from hideout
    – almost no new skins are tradeable or marketable but you can get some older items from the Steam marketplace
    – I am not aware of any catalog except https://pubg.fandom.com/wiki/Equipment but I do not care tbh

No way to sell your marketable (applicable for sale) skins other than using the steam market. Yeah it’s extremely confusing all the different kinds of in game currencies. Let’s put it this way.

G-Coin and BP are used to spend on items in the item shop. BP is earned by playing the game, while G-coin can be purchased for the shop using your real money, or by earning it in the premium battle pass.

Unlocked imprints via caches and chests are crafted using credits. While vouchers can be directly redeemed for said skin.

There’s probably no good way to ELI5 it because PUBG (IMHO) deliberately obfuscates all of the different methods to get skins so that people have trouble realizing how much money they’ve spent, or will need to spend to actually get skin x.

It’s kind of like clocks in casinos…or the fact that there aren’t any. There is no succinct explanation.

The thing that really bugs me, though, are the Chromas, which are effectively skins for skins…which you can get even though you don’t have the skin that gets skinned by the skin of the skin. Got that? If not, join the club.
