I almost wish the AC name wasn't attached to Origins, Odyssey & Valhalla.
They could exist in the same world as the Templars & Assassin's – eastern egg references would be cool.
But it seems like these games get a lot of flak because the AC name is attached. Moreno Odyssey & Valhalla as Origins seemed the most AC (storywise) of the 3.
Not that they're perfect or anything, but i recently picked up Valhalla again to finally beat it and was reminded that it's pretty much the best viking RPG I've ever played.

Absolutely! Imagine the adventures we could have had in a standalone Viking RPG set in the world of Valhalla.
I totally agree! Valhalla had all the Viking vibes and lore to make a killer standalone RPG.
Heavy agree, if they laid into a off shoot or a new IP it would could have been something very special
Yeah same with black flag. I don’t know why they have to have the crappy AC meta story.
Sure, if Ubisoft wanted to lose a whole lot of money on it, as generally happens with new single-player IPs.
They could have cut it into about 3 different games
Without the AC in the name, it would have sold worse. Each game works on its own without the AC franchise.
I stopped playing AC at Unity, hated the way it was going…
It’s like they still have that thread they have to include to give a central theme to the games but would be better if they let it go and just made Odyssey, Valhalla, origins, and maybe even black flag their own games. Then again the reuse of mechanics would seem lazy then.
if it was better made, proper attention was added, love and care from a gamer. maybe, but the valhalla we got? fuck no. It was the biggest waste of money i’ve spent since act of aggression and supcom 2
That was my problem with it. Make a great Viking game, but don’t try to shoe horn AC stuff into it cause it just detracts from what makes your Viking game great and disappoints classic AC fans (me).
That how I play these games
I just skip all the animus crap
Pretend it’s just a historical fiction game with no .modern day crap
I was so happy that Odyssey mostly did away with the modern day stuff. I loved that I was able to just spend the majority of the game playing in the past. I wish Black Flag had done that.
I haven’t played Valhalla yet to know if it’s the same or not, I keep meaning to pick it up on sale but forget.

So why get rid of the AC name attached to it if you are fine with templars and assassins still being present in the game?
I personally dont care about the “flak” that these games are getting just because the ac name and the story between the assassins vs templars is attached to the games. I still enjoy the ac games regardless of how many times i see reddit shitting on this franchise everytime it gets brought up in a post.
You could make a very strong case that these 3 games probably wouldve never been made if the assassins creed franchise was never a thing.
If standalone viking RPG is what you want then I would look into the Viking Conquest DLC for Mount & Blade: Warband
I mean, it’s Ubisoft. That mangles it upon arrival…
As far as I’m concerned those games are all standalone historical porn. Whatever Assassin’s Creed set out to be died with number 3. They’re just slapping AC on the title to sell it without much effort.
Redditors are so weird about this game lol.

This game was fine. Beautiful to look at, fun upgrades. A lot of the sidequests have fun writing. It’s too big for most I think but as a game of just doing whatever it’s really fun. The Norse gods expansion is cool and the roguelike mode is also great
If nothing else changed, it still would have been a mid game.
Unfortunately, modern media has reached a point where more of the same pays better. I don’t like it either, but there are very few game and movie studios left that are in it for the art and try new things.
Most are in it to make money, and that’s exactly what franchises like AC do.
A new IP COULD make more money, yes. But AC WILL make money.
It is jut WAAAAYY to big of a game. The completionist in me died on this one.
There needs to be an open world The Last Kingdom game.
Destiny is all.
I believe ‘brand equity’ is at least part of the answer
vikings were cowards who preyed on the weak, would have been a shit game
Fuck off Ubisoft.
Of the 3 games you mentioned, I feel like Odyssey should be the one that doesn’t deserve the AC name. They literally do not talk about or acknowledge the Assassins/Hidden Ones. Templars didn’t show up until the crusades anyway so I can understand them not being mentioned. But if the Assassin Brotherhood was actually around for all these years like the claim multiple times in several games, then they should have been around during the Peloponessian War
The picture looks like Skyrim at the first glance.
Honestly, the Animus framing story about genetic memories was always a complete waste of time and was never as interesting as the lives of the historical characters. Branding them all as part of an overarching sci-fi story was staggeringly unnecessary.
