Woke up when it dropped because my friend kept yelling at me, couldn’t login because they’re still never ready for release, went back to bed
Booted to orbit multiple times while trying to get through campaign on legendary, during the mf witness fight of all things, went to bed instead.
Apart from that it’s pretty good, thanks for helping fix my sleep schedule Bungie.

Didn’t they already push back the launch several months before this? Holy shit.

At this point I feel it’s more of a surprise when a game launches without any issues. lol

wow this is actually out? haven’t cared for destiny in a while and i’ll stay that way. let’s see if people actually like this one or if this is finally the end of this game

Bungie banned my account on Steam for having a program running while playing *another* single-player game. Their “customer service” has repeatedly told me to kick rocks despite having provided them with copious amounts of evidence that I wasn’t cheating in any way in Destiny 2. It isn’t any surprise that Bungie is still a dumpster fire.

it took until the final one, but after the massive letdown that Lightfall was I put Destiny down for good in February 2023. So almost a year and a half and I haven’t touched it. While I did not have, and still don’t have, any hype for Final Shape I did say I was going to read up on the story ending and see how the expansion is received
Wise choice, happy I stuck with it. From what I’ve heard about the story ending (pre-raid at least) I’m entirely not surprised. They ran out of creativity and passion years ago. A recent season was entirely revolved around fucking *fishing* and the diehards were eating it up. Meanwhile I was like “yep, grand finale climax is coming so let’s spend months fishing.”
In my opinion, going F2P was the single biggest mistake Bungie made amongst many, many mistakes they made. Vaulting content, that people paid for! Sunsetting weapons and then years later bringing them back. Never truly expanding the story, same enemies for a decade, just reskinned different colors and copy and pasted abilities. Allowing Crucible to be driven into the ground, and literally forgetting Gambit even existed in the end. The non-stop cycle of nerfs and buffs and everchanging meta. Some say that keeps a game fresh, I say it doesn’t bring any consistency. If you took long breaks like I did, every time you came back to the game it felt radically different, and that wasn’t always a good thing
And my main gripe will always be the story. I got sucked in at the beginning with air of mystery and exploration and discovery. They did a good job with building hype and atmosphere at the beginning of D1. But, as we now know, the original story was hacked to death and they delivered the biggest letdown of a “first” campaign I’ve ever seen. “I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain.” Despite being the hero of the story, and having actual voice lines, your character is rendered mute for 95% of the overall story, with your ghost, first Dinklebot and then Nolanbot, monologuing for you. It got so bad that in Forsaken, after >!Cayde is killed and the Vanguard is discussing retaliation,!< when your character actually says words again it was hailed by the fanbase. Somewhere along the way they dropped the more horror and suspenseful approach and adopted a Marvel-like approach with too much humor, built off the back of Cayde’s popularity. But they overdid it, and the narrative quickly became a seesaw of trying to find the right balance, but their writing has been poor for a long time.
Last good story was Witch Queen, Lightfall should get it’s own mini-doc at how the entire tone and narrative of that expansion was changed from “Infinity War” to “Secret Invasion” level bad, and from what I’ve seen of the Final Shape…predictable, and unfulfilling, ending
Good luck with Marathon, Bungie. Bungie to me is just part of the Killer B’s, once great studios that are shells of themselves today: Bethesda, BioWare, Blizzard, and Bungie

ITT: people somehow still surprised by servers being hit hard on a launch day.

Aaaaaaand the expansion has been sunsetted

The fact that anyone is surprised by a Destiny launch having a rocky start is the real concern. It’s Destiny. This is just the way it’s always been.

Wow that is lame. Hope they get it fixed for you all soon!
Maybe they could remove more content folks paid for? I hear that worked last time to fix their server issues!

How do you *still* have issues launching stuff for a **7 year old game**?
xrunawaywolf
This game is still going?

And the destiny fans will still climb over themselves to spend half a triple A games pricetag to be fucked.
A tale as old as time. A story not even worth the energy it takes each of us to type at this point.

I’ve played every Destiny expansion ever released..

This is nothing new for launch day.
