Not entirely surprising. Xbox has been on the decline for awhile now. I have a 360, a One, and a Series X, but I use my PS5 a bit more.

Im hoping they can make a comeback though. Xbox was my OG, so it’s sad to see the state it’s been in.

GS is a toy store that happens to sell games now.

Horrible business practices from Microsoft. I do hope they make a comeback

Microsoft failed to learn from the mistakes of last gen, and since gamepass is attracting less and less devs through lost sales they are in a bad place.

I owned the PS4 and Xbox one last gen, and if it wasn’t for the £1 gamepass upgrade I don’t think I would’ve used it for much besides halo. They really need to get their shit together if the gaming side of Microsoft is going to survive past the next generation of consoles.

Ugh. Here come the console war basement dwellers.

My local GameStop closed. So many memories, man.

  7. snorlaxatives_69

They’ve been working towards this for years. Worked there 14-18 and my store became a majority toy store in 2017. We still sold mostly games but yeah this is what it is.

I’ve heard (from local gamestop manager) that stores are allocated or “sponsored” certain amounts of space for each section. and those sections vary.

The conversation had come up because I had asked them why they didn’t carry any PC stuff outside of mice and keyboards. but another store a few miles away had prebuilt PCs, Monitors, GPU’s/CPU’s for sale. He had told me stores are sponsored to have a certain percentage of their store’s space to be occupied by certain section or brand, his store was nintendo and the switch section was larger than the rest. so to me it sounds like these companies are “renting” out space within these stores.

I’m guessing you mean the shelves with a selection of Xbox games (as opposed to Xbox accessories) at your local gamestop are 2 feet wide.

I’m curious though, what’s your point? Are you trying to insinuate that they should be larger? Or smaller? Or something else?

Microsoft laid off everyone in their retail sales dept. Blame them.

  11. Went to GameStop it was basically a PS5 store, they gutted Xbox and switch sections. I used to go for switch games now I don’t go anymore

  12. My local store is all garbage. Mostly Funko Pops and over priced figurines.

  13. TyeKiller77

I’d bet money it’s a 50/50 store, lower selling stores they just move the games to stores that sell more and just convert half of it into a toy store p much. This coming from a former employee.

  14. MonkeysxMoo35

GameStop bases their sections based on what’s selling best locally. Clearly Xbox ain’t doing so hot in your area

Microsoft pushing for digital sales and game pass. When you sell physical media there is a higher cost associated with it. Why sell a game on a Blu-ray when I can sell you the same game for the same price with higher margins. Hell. How bout you pay for that game monthly until the end of time. Yea. They may be evil but they aren’t stupid.

  16. Domguyps5

Didn’t xbox and gamestop announce a partnership a couple of years ago

  17. Huge_Aerie2435

Playstation is probably more popular, but only because they never stock any good Xbox games.

  18. PreferenceGloomy9947

Xbox admitted defeat awhile ago never came back from 360

  19. StreetTrial69

PS5 hold 80% market share in europe, so no wonder. Why should they offer large amounts of products that nobody gonna buy.

  20. kevlon92

Wooah you still have a gamestop?
We used to have 2 now theres none.

  21. Alastor3

I mean, i dont even use my ps5 anymore and i actually didnt used it that much to begin with and i know almost all the future games will drop on PC in 1-2 years later, I wont sell it but i’ll grow dust

  22. ComprehensiveArt7725

Lol they crammed 3 gens on one 2 feet of shelving😭

  23. CGPsaint

Gotta make room for all the toys and other shit. There is almost zero reason to step foot in Gamestop ever again.

  24. BrettMaverickReddit

“Grands succes!” -French Borat at GameStop

  25. littlemushroompod

yeah cause people don’t shop at Gamestop anymore

  26. TheTiredPangolin

You guys still have local GameStops??

  27. Hutch4434

There’s a 2 foot PlayStation section on the far right hand side if you’re focused on actual consoles. What is this post?

  28. Holymoly1983

It’s like looking in a thrift store with all the stupid shit they sale now…. Hope they all close

  29. Oh man is that a Duskull plush?! Haven’t seen one of those yet!

  30. TheHighlander52

It honestly sucks seeing the lack of engaging games for Xbox. There really aren’t exclusive games for Xbox outside of GOW and Forza. Xbox just got left behind and I think that gap is going to continue to widen considering Microsoft has basically said they’re not going to focus on hardware as much.

  31. They don’t even sell physical Xbox games in Finland anymore.

Well maybe at the video game stores but not in the super/hypermarkets where there’s always a Playstation wall.

  32. Nullpointeragain

But doesn’t kinda make sense to fit that model? Xbox pretty much has told a lot of people stop buying discs. TBH what’s a better value – 15 subscription model to a bunch of top games or individually buying each disc? I know as nerds and geeks we want the disc but the main consumers just don’t care anymore. If a new console is just around the corner, they gonna spend all that money buying triple aaa games that don’t work.

I actually have started to think about subscriptions as insurance policies against the console to run it. If I take the yearly cost and factor in 70 dollars games in a year, it becomes economically bad to keep dumping money

  33. Flamminballz23

I remember going to GameStop as a kid it was awesome . Now everything is digital and cheaper

  34. crazyfrog19984

In my local electronics store 5 m Xbox games and two 20 m rows PS 4/ 5 games . Even Switch games are more present.

I have a equal amount of games as my local game store (260 games)

  35. hotstickywaffle

I feel like most people who own an Xbox own it because of Gamepass, so they probably aren’t buying many physical games.

  36. VaultTech007

Not that I want to see physical go. It’s going to happen, and I’m partly of why.

I just prefer digital both ha e pros and cons tho for me pros far out weight the cons for me.

That being said, it sucks for those who still want physical and watching a slow death you can’t do anything about.

It was going yo hapo3n regardless of as game sizes are far out pacing physical media anyhow. More and more games need to download the rest of the game, so physical will be pointless without the internet, so you would be just as screwed as digital.

  37. Wait you guys still have physical gamestops? I thought all the brick and mortar stores closed.

  38. IndyWaWa

Is this one store or all stores? Also, Gamepass does a lot of work for Xbox’s, so you don’t need physical media.

  39. Bog-Star

I haven’t been to a gamestop in years because they no longer sell games. It’s just a big pile of funkopops and controllers.
