Yeah i think its time to replace the thermal paste
Also you can replace the stock cooler too for something little bit better unless your cooler is enough for your needs
Yes just change it. Also upgrade your CPU cooler.
Besides that it’s 4 years old, it’s a good idea to replace the paste when you remove the cooler.

I change my thermal paste any time I remove the cooler. lol
you pretty much have to now unless you want air pockets between the cooler and cpu and that’d be a bad thing for thermals.

You should always replace the paste when you take off the cooler.

Use my gaming PC daily and had it for about 6 years now and never replaced the thermal paste. CPU typically sits around 43 to 48 degrees so personally I do not know where this ‘Regularly refresh your thermal paste’ message / attitute came from (Maybe thermal paste manufacturers?).
Sure, if you are having problems and increasing temps then that’s worth considering but generally, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Of course now you have removed the cooler clean all the old Thermal paste off and apply new paste.
I have worked in IT all my life and until a couple of years ago replacing your thermal paste on a regular basis was never a thing. I was in charge of several high powered servers in a large london trading bank for 9 years with those servers running 24/7 and not once did I shut down those servers to ‘Replace the thermal paste’. So if servers can run for years without refreshing it, how come all of a sudden PC’s need to?
Almost seems like some tech guy mentioned it a few years back and now every tech and their dog has just jumped on the band wagon.
I have even had someone tell me the paste dries out after a couple of years. I would like to know how it dries out with zero airflow? If there is airflow over the paste then you have far bigger problems.
I rly find it funny how people still believe, that they need to replace the thermal paste after taking off the cooler
the thermal paste only needs to be replaced if it stops working, so if the CPU is getting too hot, its dry etc.
i have pulled off a cooler and put it back on without repasting and there was no thermal difference. gamernexus and derbauer also said the same thing and both these dudes know more about that kinda stuff than 99.99% of the users here. the amount of misinformation is wild

Well you should always repaste when you remove the cooler so yeah repaste. And if the temps were bad before then yeah… repaste
As others are saying, idk what CPU you have, but most would benefit from a better cooler than the Intel stock cooler. And yes, at the very least, replace the thermal paste.

Yes, but also you should just get a new cooler those ones are crap. Thermalright peerless assassin is like $30 and pretty great from what I’ve heard
You took off the cooler, now you’re gonna have to replace the paste whether it needed it before or not
Once you took off the cooler you must repaste it. Never put cooler with old paste.
Honestly might want to upgrade a different cooler.
