I was a huge fan of Superman The Animated series growing up, and I saved up a couple months worth of allowance to buy the game. I begged my mom to let me stay home from school to play it, but she wouldn’t budge. I was so desperate that I convinced my friend to “beat me up” (in pretend) so that I could get out of class early.

At recess that day, he punched me in the face and gave me a black eye. My friend got suspended and I ended up in detention once the teacher figured out what happened. The worst part if that EB Games didn’t get the Superman game in on launch day and I had to wait a couple extra days to play this steaming pile of shit.

Oh, you mean the legendary Plumbers in Peril: Sewer Catastrophe?

Are people just out here with calendars waiting for any game that was released on any day? These posts are growing in popularity and are really low effort lol.

Tomorrow I’m making a post about how Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 came out for the Gameboy Advance on May 30th

OP has a month old account and has over 120,000 posts. Do better mods come on now these kind of posts are so obvious lol.

  4. Disliked? That’s an overstatement. This game was pure garbage. I hate it to this very day

  5. AegonBlackbones

I still remember begging my parents to rent this for me at blockbuster and then, even at 7, being like “what the fuck dude.”

  6. My first experience with true confusion. So much about this game didn’t make sense. Also I guess my first time playing an unfinished game on release. That’s pretty much the norm now.

  7. DeficientDefiance

The game being shit was only half the scandal, the other half was everyone’s penny finally dropping on how horrendously expensive N64 games were.

  8. Busty_Ronch

Somebody should try to make a good Superman game.

  9. Fugglymuffin

My copy was bugged and all you could do is fly around a Silent Hill version of Metropolis.

  10. King9204

I mostly play on the practice mode (I think it was called) since it allows me to have all of Superman’s powers.

I remember being super excited for this game to come out as a kid. The only experience I ever had with it was all of 5min after being dragged to some type of youth event at a church.

They had a few TV carts out with N64s. This game was on one of them and I rushed over to a shockingly available controller. I was locked in. Took flight, tried to go through some stupid rings, crashed a few times, and knew then that the game was hot dogshit.

I got up and played Smash. Never thought that game would be as notorious as it is. Legendary.

Superman: The search for more RINGS!!!

I do have a retro game app on my phone, which allows me to play games from the NES all the way to the SNES to the N64. I decided to try the game out for myself, and yep, people were right about this game being very disliked. Haven’t touched it again.

I’ve only played it on an emulator, I did try to beat the game, using save states so I wouldn’t have to repeat the flying through rings stages. I got as far as the mission with two tornados, but I could never finish it, the hit boxes are too difficult. I remember the long running Proton Jon YouTube series, which probably starter a decade ago and was never finished, but he did interviews with the head of Titus Interactive and had some interesting insight on the devs vs WB, that lead to much of the worst parts of the game, and apparently they accidentally shipped the wrong build of the game, and the rings stages were meant to be optional stages on the main menu, not part of the main game.

And it was for the same reason Marvel Avengers flopped two decades later. Basically the owners of the IP didn’t want their hero character to be violent against other human characters.

I’d seriously consider dragging my nuts through broken glass than play this abomination ever again.

I rented this. I was super confused at just how bad it was. I got to the second level and just got stuck because the controls were awful. I kept thinking if I could get past the second level I’d get to the ‘real’ game where it got good. Nope, it never got good, it was barely game.

  19. Seeing the box makes me remember it fondly, but i can’t picture a single second of it, so I really don’t know.

  20. Minnipresso

And who would have known that 25 years later(present day) AAA developers would set this game as a benchmark for new games

  21. Apprehensive_Cause67

I rented this game when it was new and regretted it. Stuck with this doodoo for 3 days lol

  22. Tyga_Uppacutz

I need to YouTube this game or something. I always hear about how bad it was but I have no idea why.

This was edging in video game form. Flying mechanics were shit. Empty Metropolis with only a few cars driving around going God knows where, and fog that barely made up for the horrendous draw distance. Couldn’t grab the X-ray vision pickup even though the power was (I’m pretty sure) advertised on the back of the box. Very easily could end up clipping through walls. This gave me Phantom Pain decades before MGSV.
