Even for a brief moment, I felt more connection to Jackie than I did to any other character. When he died, I literally teared up. A character I met for a few hours made me cry. For me, that character deserves more.
Perhaps, I just miss my friend. I don't think I met any character in the game who gives you the same camaraderie like Jackie did at the beginning. Although, the endings would probably be even more depressing but I'd take it.
I know it's Cyberpunk. Still, couldn't hurt to have our friend alive and well, right?
Anyone else feel the same?

I think he works best as the “friend that gets offed early on”. When it comes to not taking situations that seriously (which is what I remember most from Jackie), we already have a guy in our head for that. I think it’s best this way
I wish we got some missions before the heist to get to actually know the guy. That whole montage should have been playable content. The stakes get too real too fast, then he dies, and my reaction was more of a shrug than anything.
I wish we got more time with Jackie, but not for him to be there til the end. His death is pivotal to the story, and it’s meant to hit hard. Jackie is one of the best bros in gaming, period. It also would’ve got kinda crowded with both him and Johnny around V the whole time.
What I’d have liked is expansion content set before the heist where we were working with Jackie, living with Mama Welles and running gigs for Padre. It could lead up to us meeting T Bug and running a semi-big op for Wakako which then leads to the Sandra Dorsett extraction, then the game events would play out as normal from there.
I wanted more time with Jackie tbh at least a few missions together before he was offed. I’m on my third playthrough and refuse to start the quest. Yes I’m in denial but if I don’t do the quest he doesn’t need to die.
Jackie is **the** best best friend character in gaming, bar none. And I wish we had more time to spend with him
To make his death even more impactful, and I’m saying that as someone who foresaw his death and still choked up
His death was necessary, somewhat unfortunately
Personally, I think they made him die too early. Therefore I don’t really have much emotion on this character, I was more interested in his iconic guns.
Game wouldn’t be the same if he doesn’t die, it’s a bit like Ned Stark in GoT
you can still call him through the game and talk with him about your current goals and accomplishment
No. I love Jackie but his death is a catalyst. It’s part of what makes V who they are. The last little bit of naïveté and safety blanket falling away.
I would have liked an option to save him on later playthroughs for sure
Developers do this all the time: start with a crew, kill them off in the tutorial, so that the player is attached to the plot on a personal level.
Some of these are really effective, like Gorion in Baldur’s Gate or the >!protagonist herself!< in The Cat Lady. But it doesn’t always work, like in the case of *I don’t even remember their names* of Pillars of Eternity, or Jenkins in the otherwise epic MAss Effect 1.

This tool however is best used when the replacement characters are even cooler than the ones who died (like Wrex after Jenkins, Xzar or Edwin after Gorion, etc.).
And this is the point where I think CP77 missed the mark a bit. Jackie, at least to me, was more important than any of the new companion with the exception of Johnny. I mean sure, Panam, Judy, Kerry, Alex are nice in a vacuum, but Jackie is much more than that. To me.
I wouldn’t have minded one or two more gigs with him, plus some character work in-between. It was done very well though, given the running around you have to do pre-heist I never felt Jackie wasn’t my best choom. My latest play through (still playing), I took street kid and felt like Mama Welles was also family too.
I was utterly shocked the first time, and spent the whole game thinking ‘’goddamn it Jackie and Bug both gone?!’’ and then going through that again with the Evelyn quests.
I also lit all of the Voodoo Boys up this time around after being restrained the first few times. This time, my V just lit them up and I especially enjoyed taking down Placide after he essentially tried to fry me along with the Netwatch guy.
No, he has to die for the story to happen. Wouldn’t mind more missions with him tho.
I would have been cool with a choice of protagonist between V and Jackie.
V if you wanna play as your own immserive character. Jackie if you want a more already established character.
Like on the ride to the no tell whoever has the relic slotted gets rebooted by the relic. They still end up being dumped in the badlands by Dex. And the story proceeds from there.
I always call him when I get the option
it just wasn’t meant to be. acceptance is the key
No, although I wish we did get more time with him, his death works better narratively. I just wish they hadn’t made him act so naive for the time we did know him.
I wish we had possible ending with a bunch of characters like we did in Witcher 3. A bunch of people either live or die and you can save a bunch of them. Kind of like the Mass Effect series with all your choices. You can literally save 90% of your friends if you play your cards right. I feel like Jackie should’ve had more than one possible ending. Like maybe he doesn’t die in the heist but dies when you assault Arasaka because he sacrifices himself to weaken or take down Smasher. Or maybe he lives and you convince him to run away with Misty and join the Aldecaldos or maybe there’s a mission that gets Padre killed and Jackie has to go back to the Valentino’s for whatever reason. And there could be trade offs. Maybe to keep Jackie someone else has to die which makes him resent you for a while and you have to rebuild your friendship.
Well he was with us until his end I guess
I dunno, for some reason I always thought Jackie was going to betray V at some point.
Nope, because he would just be a regular npc. Now his passing makes the character more meaningful.
Well, since the soul eater chip was in his head for awhile, maybe a bit if Jackie is still in it..? Maybe a way of accessing it, or perhaps seeing him a la Johnny.
Yeap he’s the best
Nope. I think every second of his screen time was maximized to best fit the story. Wouldn’t change a thing in regard to Jackie
i just wish they didnt turn the prologue into a montage
