Back when they were good and properly optimized.

*here come the downvotes and boos

I love playing OpenTTD, and they still update it nowadays after many years

  3. I bought theme park (1994) on GOG 2 weeks ago, such a good game.

Give back sims 1 please!!! How can I get my childhood back!?!?

  5. Yabe_uke

Looks more like PIII/128MB game, but yes, I do remember either way.

  6. airforcevet1987

I remember playing these games with absolutely no idea what was in my PC lol. It was just a magic box that liked to make weird noises

  7. Purge9009

now game look like that and needs 32gigs of ram

  8. scanguy25

These days you get a simple desktop app and its 1 GB.

  9. ConcertCorrect5261

No I’m Gen-Z, I’m not classy enough to enjoy those games

I freaking love Half Life and the classic Fallout’s tho

i also recall how a messaging app with audio and video would use 4mb of ram and had a 8MB disk install ON 2004

rather than the 300MB and 2 GB of ram fucking discord uses nowadays. electron was a fucking mistake.

  11. no, nothing that needed 8mb looked like that

Honestly wouldn’t mind a rimworld like game that looks like this. If it had the optimization in place it could be run on something that doesn’t cost 2k.

  13. Astalonte

    You dont.

With 8mb of ram you could play 3d proper games like Half life 1 or Doom 3.

    You full of shite haha

  14. TheGrandestOak

But now to mimic that style it takes so much processing power.

  15. Played much Deadlock,Starcraft,Warcraft,Doom,Duke3d.
    Sims,Theme Hospital,simcopter,Simant

My first expansion was starcraft brood war.
Good times only a CD and bring lot of more game.

And my first dlc was castlevania reverie, Story dlc is so unfair , and of course have to buy the asura wraith dlc a time after.

lets not forget they put a man on the moon with less than 1 meg of memory.

more resources combined with the insatiable capitalist mindset of ‘MAKE ALL THE FUCKING MONEY RIGHT NOW’ has resulted in a climate of pushing out sub-optimal, broken buggy bullshit RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE NEED ALL THE MONEY RIGHT NOW. But to argue both sides, increases in graphical quality could forgive a measure of the amount of space these new apps need, and the GRAM needed to run them.

However, it’s still pretty much a complete shit show.

For a moment, I could hear the PZ theme running through my head.

    Remember Pizza Tycoon?

Did anyone ever figure out how custom pizzas were rated? My best rated pizza was some kind of abomination with cheese, banana, pepperoni etc.

This makes me sad about the final SimCity title 🙁 R.I.P. I guess

  20. stuyboi888

Yea I have often played some older titles and asked why did we need to look much better than this. I read once it’s to do with the amount of polygons. We used to be able to perceive the changes really easily but now its hard to. We all remember the wrectangles from MGS 1 and then how much smoother in MGS2 and now looks at 5, immaculate. But there is a lot more between 2-5 like exponentially more

That said the industry is about crisp graphics over gameplay and or story. The looks sell trailers and people gobble up a mediocre sorry and gameplay all in the name of profit

  21. Top-Conversation2882

    Nope

I am too young for this shit

The oldest games I remember are tekken 3 and virtuacop2

  22. exprezso

Grid/cube is still the best. Everything being so smooth has lost many of the gaming appeal. Think hit box porn.

If I wanted realistic I’d watch a movie or just go outsdoors

  23. Lurking_Housefly

This exact game would require 8GB of RAM for 8MB of assets…especially with how shotty everything is programmed nowadays!
