The criticism is not “it’s unrealistic”, it’s that they’re using a real historical person as MC. I thought this would have been clear by now.

i don’t care about the black samurai but it would have been nice to have a Japanese male lead in the feudal Japan game
there’s not that many games in that era
Masturberic
Just because he lived doesn’t mean he was a samurai, but mostly I just prefer my games to be free of (American) politics. I’m old-fashioned like that, sue me.

I mean I don’t really care if the MC is black. I do get it from a Japanese fan point of view given every single protagonist has basically been the race, or at least have a reason to be in the setting their in like Eivor being in England. So it would be disappointing from that point of view. Like did it have to be Yasuke? We’ve never played a real historic character before so why did Yasuke have to be the MC?

The hate is definitely overblown but I always thought the first civilization stuff was the worst aspect of assassins creed
Like you didn’t need some mystical sci-if bullshit to make a shadow war between the historical political elite and some stab by vigilantes cool

My issue more comes from you were more of an assassin in the older games in Valhalla while an improvement over odyssey, it’s a side thing, so I wonder how much of shadows will be an actual assassin creed story

It’s assassin’s creed. You’ve already played the same game 6 times

But getting to kill the japanese as a black man is the best part! /s

I’m glad to hear they’re making a game set in the Viking era. I love the era and the lore of the Norse.

People talking about the MC being black and I’m just amazed they waited for a game like Ghosts of Tsushima to come out before going to Japan.
GOS literally plays like a assassins creed game and I have no idea how they’re going to make an AC game that feels any different from it.
The thing I don’t get, besides why they used Chinese architecture instead of Japanese architecture and why a retainer would go into battle and leave his masters side without permission (who was known for executing people for slight offenses) which doesn’t make sense… But why… Why would a samurai… Samurai who fought and killed ninjas… Become… An assassin when they are tasked with killing assassin’s.

What’s a “vikig assassin”?
Wizard_bonk
The last real assassins game was unity. All we want is unity in Japan. Valhalla isn’t AC. Odyssey isn’t AC. Mirage… barely made it. I eagerly wait for shadows. Though it is odd that now is when they choose to have the main character be a historical figure?
Anyway. If it plays like unity. I’ll be happy.

Yeah it’s totally about it being unrealistic, excellent straw man.
It’s totally not that it’s a tokenism. I’m more concerned with the fact that their marketing is misrepresenting Yasuke as he was in history. It’s fine to make fiction with him as a samurai – though the reason is about as transparent as anything ever has been – but they are presenting him as if that is what he is known as historically. And he isn’t.

The hate for the new game is ridiculous. It is a documented historical event that there actually was a black samurai. The fact that people say it is unrealistic is really telling about how ignorant some people are.

Or, they could’ve just used one of the thousands of actual Japanese samurai ? Ya know, since it’s set in Japan..🙂
horiami
are we gonna pretend that the alien stuff wasn’t made fun off in the first games ? hell the abstergo plot gets so stupid most people don’t even know what happens in it
people were playing assassin’s creed 2 to be an assasin in Italy not for the magic pope fight
and the 3 rpgs have been criticized for their changes, i remember people grumbling about odyssey having mythical things
Also you’ve never played as a historical character until now, the whole appeal was playing a random and interacting with other historical characters like blackbeard or davinci

He wasn’t a black samurai he was a convicted criminal who was castrated and sentenced to slavery.
Slaves are not samurai. During this time period in Japan he would have been considered a demon just for being black. He lived in Japan for a year and a half.
There is no black samurai and it’s disrespectful to both slaves and Japanese culture to claim someone was a samurai for being a slave.
One book from a woke activist in the 21 century calls him a samurai and everyone claims it’s legit.
Lots of myths about Japan are modern day. Entire idea if bushido is made up in modern day as well.

Oh looking back people definitely didn’t have a major issue with the viking games lack of assassin creed gameplay, randomly adding gods from a religion that has nothing to do with the alien gods from the first 8 games. People also totally hated you playing a native American who fought the colonizers. Yep everyone hates Conner.
