The advantages of CAMM2 over DIMM

Oh please, you know they will put RGB on CAMM modules the first chance they’ll get.

Isn’t DDR5 already dual channel per stick?

Also… “allows better airflow for cpu”? Really?!

  3. Why aren’t ram slots in line with the airflow direction?

I would prefer upgradability over slightly faster speeds tho if it’s cheaper by like 30$ or more then it’s a good option

Idk about Camm2 but LPCAMM2 vs Sodimm is a no brainer. Can’t wait for it to become widely adopted into gaming laptops. Those 7500MT’s speeds with high capacities will be incredible to have.

Wait, so that CAMM thingy is not upgradable?

Ffs. Are you guys fucking serious or what?

CAMM2 looks like a cool technology because it should allow for faster memory while maintaining modularity. If the choice is between soldered memory and CAMM2, the choice is obvious.

FYI CAMM2 is upgradable, not sure why you think it can’t be upgraded. The only problem is that it requires a screwdriver to unscrew the stick.

RGB will def go on the CAMM2 somewhere.

Easily swappable isn’t really a concern, you don’t swap RAM often for removal speed to be a major factor, just like CPU isn’t quick but no one cares.

    And you can upgrade it.

3 of those “advantages” are useless when you take like 1 minute buying a case with clearance or a motherboard that has plenty of clearance both of which you can do easily

Future “I want more memory” me will hate advocating this, but “I want faster, more stable RAM” me wants 4 CAMMs mounted on the backside of desktop motherboards to make the signal traces as short as possible. You could then heatsink directly to your motherboard tray.

  12. After decades we managed to get near perfect standardization and now we have to choose between two types of RAM.

Liquid cooling for rams gotta be the dumbest shit tho lmao, the rest I get.

  14. RGB alone gives 50+ FPS so it’s a no-brainer

If camm become as affordable as regular DIMM then why not. For now shitty spec camm is at the price of high end desktop cpu.

  16. RelativeWrong4232

I can bet my left nut that they’ll be putting a screen on it as soon as they get the chance and huge number of people would buy it just for that

I think CAMM2 is a really good concept and I’m interested where it will go in the future. Especially in the ITX / sff community where every Single bit of space matters. If CAMM2 can be installed on the back of a motherboard, that would be huge news!

There’s almost no way this takes off imo. At least not for years.

  19. Revo_Int92

RGB, c’mon now, that is a easy bait. Saying that, first time I’ve heard about this CAMM2 thing, looks interesting

  20. Gh051_hehe

CAMM2 is upgradable as hell, just need to remove the screws like nvme drives and just replace

  21. glumpoodle

Really, it comes down to cost until it becomes widely adopted. Early adopters will pay a premium, then price will drop rapidly as it spreads and the industry transitions over, just like every other tech shift.

can i debate some of those positive points for the camm2?

the cpu cooler and cooling to the cpu should be scrapped. as soon as you start putting heatsinks, waterblocks or other cooling devices on the camm2 memory, you’ll be raising the profile of the memory and running into the same issues as you did before. you’ll also have to create ducts or something as intake air will now be going over a fan or heatsink or both that are cooling the memory instead of going directly to the cpu cooler.

yes, already dual channel. but considering that it lays flat, it takes up more realestate on the the board, by the looks of it, you’ll only be able to fit 1 camm2 memory.

also, the liquid cooling support will only be beneficial for people with water cooling systems. not everyone wants that.

and finally, because it lays on it’s contact and screwed down, i’d like to know how secure it is and if there is any issues if it gets bumped or banged, will that cause connections issues?

not saying it’s not a better format, just pointing out the flaws of the post.

  23. alphagusta

Honest question. If the height of RAM is a problem why didn’t board manufacturers find a way to just make the sockets sideways like in a laptop

  24. Leading-Leading6319

    no RGB?

    -ptuh-

    there goes my +15fps
