It’s just the bluntness of it. Most cyberpunk genre stories don’t understand this part and just make the Corps the big bad bullies who wag their fingers in the faces of the poor and laugh. Here, we get to see how even the Corps are just fully subsumed in the utter regression of society to the point that you kind of can’t blame them for evolving into what they did.
