I remember using 1 gig in 2014. It worked but only because I was running XP. Soon after had a Windows 7 laptop with 4 gigs. Was much better.

You can still use 3gb and 4gb cards, just have to turn settings and resolution way down. That said, 6/8 gb cards are fine for 1080p mostly and they are pretty cheap

I used 2gb up until 2017. The laptop ran a core 2 duo, DDR2 800MHz, and Ubuntu. That laptop still runs to this day somehow

I still have a spare old laptop with 4 gb ram that I use occasionally. It’s still good enough for light browsing and normal day to day tasks.
