I just got my first ever gaming PC (pre-built) and UPS delivered it to me in an absurdly wet cardboard box (it basically came apart in my hands).
The PC didn’t appear to be wet itself, and so far appears to be running fine, but is there an easy way to check for water damage? Anything I should do with NewEgg or UPS to cover myself in case the water caused problems that don’t appear immediately?
Seeking advice!

I’d file a claim with UPS anyway and also reach out to NewEgg
Well at least it works. But I’d start a paper trail with Newegg and UPS incase a week or 3 later it starts giving you problems.
I wouldn’t even take it out of the box
Immediately contact ups and newegg
Document it all, preferably with a video and many pictures, then send that right back.
Should be fine, as long as it isn’t wet when its turned on. Since rain is dirty af, Ild still return it just in case there is some less visible damage.
Newegg receives working return. Puts in new dry box, slaps new replacement on the invoice, sends back with UPS.
That’s really unfortunate. I’m sorry, and good luck.
Don’t open the box, pack it back up (because the way it was shipped is atrocious), file for a return from Newegg. If Newegg doesn’t accept, (which my experience is they always fight you), then file a claim with UPS. Either way, file a complaint with UPS.
Thats bad
Instantly send that back. No way did nothing get effected by this. Which will become a issue either soon or way later when you can not blame it on this anymore.
File a complaint about UPS and demand it to be swapped for a new one. You have that right as you dont have to accept a delivery in this condition.
Fuck that.
Liquid cooled
most of us showed up in a wet box as well.
Alright I’ve been convinced, calling NewEgg customer service and requesting a new one now. Thank you all!
Do you really need to be convinced to reach out to the seller/shipper when you receive a damaged product?
Do you need to be reminded to tie your shoes if they come untied too?
” No soup for you!” send it back.
Surprised it wasn’t FedEx. Last time they delivered to me they threw my package over my neighbors fence in the pouring rain.
Seems like the PCMR Gods are giving you disdain for not building your own pc
I (software engineer) had a customer once that had to mail me THREE computers before I could get one that wasn’t soaking wet. Apparently it was really hard for FedEx to walk all the way to my front door where the overhang was.
I’m surprised that thing wasn’t destroyed. There is *no* internal padding between those two boxes. Great job Newegg.
Should’ve never opened it.
That legs tho..
I’ve bought a PC case, nothing inside besides 3 fans pre installed and it came in an original box wrapped in roughly 10m/30ft of bubble wrap. (it was insane unwrapping it) It rained that day and the courier refused to move it out of the van until I provided additional rain cover. This is below unacceptable.
Very brave to open it and set it up at all. I would have returned it as is.
I’m wearing those exact socks right now lol
If it’s asus you gotta pay them $5k. Your fault.
I’m pretty sure the guy who boxed it knew it was wet. Return it and sue them for emotional distress.
Did you order a water cooled PC?
Just put it in rice. /s
brother why would you even open it, let alone try to run it
There was nothing in the big box? It just, flung around in it? Lol, why even bother with it.
file a claim for damages and use a different delivery service.
Good morning u/[Thegodfather424](https://www.reddit.com/user/Thegodfather424/) ! I truly apologize to see how your Yeyian PC package arrived to you with water damage, and thank you so much for bringing this to my attention via Reddit chat. I’ve already forwarded your claim to my Claims Team for an escalated review. Please check my replies there at your earliest convenience, as I look forward to your responses.
I would tell Newegg. They are the customer to ups. And get a new computer. Don’t even turn that one on. Assume it has water damage.
Did it actually come in that larger box? With no packing material in it? If it did, it’s obvious it was like that before they shipped it because the outer box looks fine. It’s a good thing you got photos. I wouldn’t open it and immediately request a return. They might have tried to blame it on you if something was broken in it without this evidence.
First rule to receive expensive things: record opening
I was considering making some sarcastic, facetious, snide, elitist, ignorant comment along the lines of “oh, you bought prebuilt? Then you deserve for your property to be destroyed, and your life ruined!” but I see some people already are doing that unironically.
Send it back no need to take a chance on a new item that you probably paid a good amount for. If you’ve been without a pc you surely can wait at least a few more days for a replacement
