
Currently debating between 2x24gb and 2x32gb on AM5. FYI I would be using a 7950x3d, with an itx motherboard (haven't settled on one), and I wouldn't be able to fit a fan directly on top of the ram (Currently planning on getting this copper heatspreaders but open to suggestions, and I also have a radiator above the ram with exhaust fans), don't want to strip away all heatspreaders. The PC would be used towards gaming and some Unreal Engine 5, Davinci Resolve, and Blender.
I have heard quite a few mixed opinions about this. Some say that 2x24gb is better since I could try to run 7800+mt/s with this motherboard and a dual-CCD cpu like the 7950x3d would benefit from the extra bandwidth. Others say that 2x32gb is slightly better because Hynix 16gb A-die can tighten a few timings tighter than Hynix 24gb M-die (If I confused any of these things please let me know).
My question is, with my limited cooling and 2-dimm motherboard, what would be my best option? It also caught my attention that 2×24 and 2×32 are very similar in price when it comes to 6400+ kits (to ensure the die is hynix), so if the performance are identical at the same thermal limit then I'd prefer more capacity. One major difference between them is that the 24gb DIMMs will be single ranked and the 32gb DIMMs will be dual ranked.
