Is there any modern laptop that is sturdy and feels clicky and it also runs well like these old laptops?

  1. OMG. I’m having flashbacks to my PC tech days. I almost went to get some coffee just thinking about the Windows 2000 boot time on that thing.

Probably something like this, just keep in mind you’re paying a premium for low end hardware stuffed into a hard shell lol.

I think a lot of newer laptops don’t have clacky keyboards anymore, I forget what type of keyboard it is (membrane? Who knows). Nowadays it’s either mechanical or some other form, possibly just newer membrane.

    Dell latitude e5490.

Pretty good specs and has the old-ish architecture. Or a latitude e5440 for older, thicker design. But you are on a 4th gen intel.

I had a few Tecra machines… Amazing what a force Toshiba was in the PC business… And how now they’re a complete afterthought.

I’ve been a Thinkpad user since my Toshiba days… While they don’t make ’em like they used to, I’ve had very good experiences with them.

  5. i wish there was a brand that took these laptops and put the hardware of a modern gaming laptop in them

“Runs well”?? These things took 10 fucking minutes to boot up.

Aim for toughbooks and the such, anything rugged and weather proof. its thick, you can hit people with it and game while taking a bath.

Well maybe not really take a bath but it certainly can take your mountain dew spill or monster drink or whatever.

Probably even the guy’s head remains if you bash someone with it.

For legal reasons, my lawyer advised me to tell you this is a joke.

  8. there is rugged laptops by Dell and Panasonic.

But you can also get a higher tier ThinkPad like P or T that have a very great keyboard.

I want a modern machine, just built like a brick shithouse. I want to be able to beat someone to death with it.

Idk what “Feels clicky” means but Lenovo Thinkpads are popular with companies cause they run well and can survive a lot.

There could be a market there for hipsters. Like vinyls

r/Thinkpad may have some words for you

  17. I think you’re looking for a Lenovo thinkpad

While not exactly the same, a laptop I own somewhat fitting of your description is a lenovo thinkpad e460. You might find it in a newer/higher spec, it’s just what I’ve had for 6 years for school and work. I’ve added another stick of ram for 16gb and replaced the s l o w hdd for a nvme drive. It has been plenty fast even for some light games!

To be fair, Apple build some of the most solid laptops. I always think if you can pick it up by the palm rest, with one hand, you have a solid laptop if it doesn’t flex.

No. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will continue using my T520 until it dies. Then I will swap the internals for something else
