amd has always been and always will be a good buy for the budget minded buyers.

R&D research is expensive. AMD thought they were going to be able to offset this with AI and the inability to ship cards to China really hurt them. AMD took a 48% decline in revenue in their gaming division in the first quarter of 2024.
The decision to forgo high end cards in the RDNA 4 lineup was basically waving the white flag to NVIDIA.
If you thought the price to performance for NVIDIA was bad wait until they have nothing more powerful than a 60 series to compete with.
Shareholders expect results and dividends. Shedding off the discrete graphics market and focusing on the CPU/iGPU makes the most financial sense.
They can’t compete on features, and resist competing on price, so…
All i need is DLSS on AMD. If they get DLSS i am sold.
This is really silly. All markets are on a downturn right now, and when markets start tanking, “frivolous” consumer spending is always going to take a huge hit.
AMD is fine. Their earnings generally are super strong, and they’ve made huge progress with both RDNA 2 and RDNA 3, even though the latter was disappointing compared to how great RDNA 2 actually was.
Moreover, AMD has a huge lineup of APU’s coming out which obviously rely very heavily on their graphics technology. Strix point and Strix Halo are going to be fucking *huge* in mobile. In fact, it’s the major market shift I’ve been eagerly awaiting for at least 5 years. We’re about to see an era where mobile graphics are mostly integrated, because nobody is going to be interested in paying a ton of extra money for low end dGPU’s in laptops when AMD can give you an APU that gives the same performance for less money and less power.
I’m not at all worried about AMD’s gpu division. I’m far more worried about Intel entirely collapsing as a company, especially after *their* earnings report.
If AMD decides that its not worth making a high end GPU they’re done for. Their best selling GPU and most popular used its the 7900XTX mainly because it was powerful enough to play anything with max graphics and still raytrace while being a good price. If they release budget Gpu’s might as well buy Nvidia budget. The fact they released FSR 3 to nvidia was dumb as well. More FSR 3 mods being made are only for Nvidia gpu’s because they made it open source. Their own GPU line can’t even take advantage of their open source code Lmao. AMD needs something exclusive to just their Gpu’s or nobody will care when you can buy Nvidia get the benefits of Nvida and Amd software anyways. The sole blame is on AMD’s executives making these dumb decisions. They could have something great but they just keep making the wrong decisions. They killed their own company if that is the case.
NVidia will stop releasing low and mid-tier cards. The cheapest will be 1500USD and up. They have already made moves in that direction with the insane price of cards already.
Option story…
AMD is selling MI300/ MI300X by the truckload, that’s a big part of the massive increase in datacenter revenue. Even if they could sell more gaming GPUs, they simply don’t have the manufacturing capacities. Unlike Nvidia, AMD has two very distinct product lines for gamers and professionals, with no option to sell “lesser” datacenter chips to consumers. So no shit they’re focusing on their highest end products for gamers, those are the only products with even remotely comparable margins.
It would help of they’d actually make a competitive product. But no matter what fanboys say, their cards are simply inferior. Bad RT performance (comparatively), bad encoder, horrendous upscaling technology, no Nvidia broadcast competitor (it’s actually good btw), more driver issues. Their prices are just too close to Nvidia to make up for the deficiencies. No sane person would choose them over Nvidia without a massive discount. The RAM argument isn’t sane. 3080 10 GB never hit VRAM in limits at 1440p and it wouldn’t run 4k well enough to matter regardless. Only 4k needs a lot of VRAM and all the true 4k cards have it.

They ignoring bug reports, and i would switch back NVIDIA but i have had some really annoying issues with NVIDIA as well, and they got some new issues that are only fixed by switching to competition until they address those.
I am keeping track of user reported issues, and my own issues monthly, so far not seen anything change.
You cannot expect to build on a foundation that is not stable, AMD drivers have been a mess for a long time now.
Whatever will they do being the only supplier to the current consoles and making the best CPU’s currently available. It’s clearly a sinking ship sell your stocks now. /s

My issue with AMD has always been stability…I used them for a few generations but with the 6000 and 7000 series I had some pretty gnarly issues near launch so ended up having to return and go with Nvidia. It’s sad because the hardware was good but they always seemed rush to launch.
My RX 6900 would get stuck in boot loops, rev fans to 100% and start overheating on boot up and then calm down…random freezes and crashes in games or just hard lock.
RX7900 was a bit more stable but i’d get a lot of game crashes. I’ll try the 8000 series again but unless they can launch somewhat stable it’s a hard sell for most people.
They know this. They are getting rid of their high end cards and focusing on affordable mid teir cards.
Without DLSS + Frame Gen, Ray Tracing and superior Drivers AMD is always dead in the water , sadge.

Because AMD is over priced compared to the way over priced NVIDIA. AMD could come in and grab chunks of the market but their cards are too expensive, their 6000 series overperform the equivalent 7000 series by a massive degree it makes no fucking sense. They also dont get to rely on the talk of ray tracing at all because AMDs is fucking garbage, even tho ray tracing under the 4070 supers is mostly a non-starter. They also need to fix the software.
Lower your prices.
Time to invest even more in nvda 👀

They can’t catch up on features but they used to be at least way cheaper for similar performance as rtx cards but this last gen they threw up price/performance out the window too. Why would I even buy amd card right now when rtx card which is $50-$100 more can destroy the competition

I don’t play as much now that Covid is in the rear view mirror. I scored a reference 6800 XT in 2020 or 2021 and it totally works for my occasional gaming needs. Hope they stick through it and make waves with the 8000 series.

I cannot fathom why so many people on this sub want nvidia to have a monopoly on the GPU market.
That tends to happen when your prices don’t meet the performance, and your drivers aren’t consistent.
If they launched at the price they are now, they’d have done a lot more in sales.
