
I posted here a couple months ago about stability testing/benchmarking my first build (14700k/4080s).
Most responses stated that I wasn’t running the chip “stock” like I thought since my MSI PRO Z790-p pushes crazy high PL’s/voltages compared to Intel’s true stock settings. I’ve had “liquid cooler” enabled by default which gives a 4096W PL.
Since this is my first build, I didn’t want to mess with any bios settings – everything was and has continued to be 100% stable with great performance – I decided to leave HWinfo running constantly while I game and run a couple more CB23 10-minute benchmarks.
However, after reading many of the posts here regarding the 14900k stability issues and degradation from the motherboard manufacturer’s crazy power settings, I’m worried that I should be tweaking some settings for the longevity of my cpu; namely the PL1 and PL2 – which I’ve been told can be changed easily by switching the cooler type from liquid to tower.
I’ve also been told that lowering Lite Load from 9 could lower the current draw and temperature of the chip – while possibly also introducing stability issues.
Some also suggested disabling “Enhanced Turbo” which is another MSI setting that pushes the chip harder.
Temps have been fine so far in gaming – so if these current settings are completely safe for 14700k, I think I will just leave it as is. I just don’t want to end up with a prematurely degraded cpu that crashes to BSOD every time I use it.
I’ve included some pictures of the HWinfo report after running a complete CB23 test.

yes, u should change your PL1 and 2 limits. right now they are at 4k or whatever. even setting them at 350watts is better depending on your cooling. I like 300 watts
I have my power limits set to 253 for both. And offset voltage by -0.045 and it’s working great. 30700 in cinebench max temp 79-82. I’ve got a 13700k
