I mean, Fuck Activision with a rusty spoon for all I care. But this actually sounds like the work of a patent troll, so for once makes me sympathetic towards the damn greedy bastards.

Wow, after 8 years of legal battling that 23 million may be just enough for Acceleration Bay to pay off their lawyers fees.
Wait, the article says it hasn’t been appealed yet. Nevermind.

Their “mission” according to their website:
Our passion is innovation combining innovators with branding, R&D and backed by strong intellectual property protection
Their main achievement right after saying their mission:
First web site design company in Australia. the rest mentions marketing “technology” ie: the less polite version of this is products help with spamming.
What a bunch of clowns. For a moment I though they were an actual games / tech incubator and activision / blizzard had stolen some game / code from them but no they are just 100% patent troll and potentially scam enablers.

Guess that’s why Microsoft had to close all those studios: to make up for the lost money here.

Trying to stay neutral on this, but I kinda wish I had more details than what this, or Reuter’s has on it. The claimed infringement is on two simultaneous data sharing technologies supposedly used in several CoD titles and World of Warcraft. Activision claims their technology works different than Acceleration Bay’s patents.
You’d think that proving they work different would be easy enough, but who knows if they could, or if the jury would be technically savvy enough to recognize whatever difference Activision is claiming.
It’s interesting enough of a court case, though.

Activision isn’t original, and has been stealing for years now. What else is new? Even if these guys are just glorified trolls, i’m happy someone took a stand against Acti for once.

Quite the day for Microsoft.

I say they pay double the amount. Hell, triple the amount… they can handle it
