Let’s raise a glass for the unsung heroes at Arkane Austin and dust off that underrated gem of a game for a spin!

Never played it, but I did love the old Prey game. Don’t fear the reaper playing whilst you’re being abducted by aliens was such a cool and different start to a game

My pile of shame getting bigger and bigger

Most of the devs that worked on Prey did not lose their jobs, because they were no longer in Arkane Austin when Redfall was developed.

I believe it came out bug-ridden to the point of being unfinishable, and got a lot of bad reviews because of that. Me, I got it least six months (but maybe really 1-1.5 years later) when it was fixed, and found it fantastic.

isn’t Prey made by both studio in collaboration? (no offence to Austin studio, it’s their best game)

  7. I remember buying an Arkane 2 for 1 deal: Dishonored 2 and Prey for €23, some time early 2019. At the time I knew almost nothing about Arkane’s Prey, other than that it wasn’t related to the previous Prey games (cancelled and released). I figured €23 was a reasonable deal for Dishonored 2 alone, and I was getting Prey along with it.

Then that intro sets you up for complete madness, and the space station is the most awesome hub world I’ve ever played, and all the gameplay systems come together so wonderfully. Some people don’t like the “black blob” enemy design, but I had no issue with that either: that just made them more *alien*, for lack of a better word.

All in all, I consider Prey to be one of my favorite games ever.

I enjoyed it so much, that I didn’t really dare touch the Prey: Mooncrash DLC, because how could it ever be anything but a disappointing experience compared to Prey itself? It’s got these roguelite elements, which I don’t really like, and no-one ever really talks about it… But I was bored and thought, what the heck, let’s try it.

    I should have known better.

*Another* awesome hub world, *another* awesome story, *another* excellent gameplay experience, *another* labor of absolute love, Mooncrash is a perfect extension to Prey. The same gameplay, but enough deviation from the main game that it feels like a whole fresh experience.

When at their best, both Arkanes (Austin and Lyon) are such fantastic studios. It’s a shame we got to see Austin fall from grace, fall apart and disappear altogether. But I’m really thankful for what that studio’s put out over the years. Cheers!

Played it for a couple hours after getting it for free on EGS and couldn’t really get into it. Gave me the vibes of a less compelling Bioshock.

  9. Daremotron

Played it last year. Was probably my favorite gaming experience of the year, which is saying a lot given how stacked 2023 was with amazing games.

Xbox should shut down 343 instead the 3 studios

In my opinion 343 has killed halo since they got the ownership to it and selling micro transactions to game they stop updating for future content. Why 343 haven’t been punished for what they done and halo tv show being a laughing joke. Phil shutting down the only Japanese studio they had while trying get into Japanese market. Why shut down the other studio Xbox you have plenty of money to spend since you brought Activision blizzard. @philstepdown

Prey is an amazing game which suffers from its characters and enemies having no real personality. I absolutely love everything they did with Prey mechanically and I love the station itself. just don’t ask me about the plot, I can only remember the ending well and not for positive reasons (although I know some people like the ending)

  12. FireballAllNight

This is a great game. I found it much more compelling than Bioshock.

Prey was probably the most surprising game I’ve ever slept on. Played it last year and it holds up incredibly well. I had an absolute blast throughout the whole story. I’m hoping the developers are able to come together and at least make a spiritual sequel, if not an official one.

I can’t recommend this game enough

Lots of fun, reminded me of bioshock in space. Which yeah already happened with System Shock but this felt like another take on it.

It’s on GOG. Seriously, get it. And Mooncrash. It’s absolutely a great FPS/RPG hybrid. There are twists and turns to the story and gameplay. And a *neat* fast travel mechanism.

Prey is such a great game. It’s so simple in its implementation, it’s a game like I used to play 15 years ago but with the modern conveniences and visuals you’d expect. I picked it up, I played it, I finished it, and I was pleased. We need more games like prey. I suppose that’s what many PlayStation style games are, but I’ve never had one so I guess I should check them out.
