I wouldn’t want one of these scary pieces of shit in my house.

Not blaming anyone but myself. Installed adapter May last year and it was still fine when Cablemod announced the recall. So i thought I’m lucky and kept it. Yesterday my PC started shutting down as soon as the GPU got busy. Well… Lesson learned?

This is the reason why, no matter how much money someone’s got; I always recommend 4080/S or 7900XTX. I hope you can claim your warranty or refund.
Doomlv
Nvidia just had to make that new connector

Thought you were lucky that it just hadn’t failed yet, how would that mean it wouldn’t? Gamble on something that could light a fire? That is the most flawed logic I’ve ever read.

Time to head to JayzTwoCents and buy the melting connector shirt… You earned it D:
Only_Emu9133
idiot. it was recalled for a reason. why did you keep it?
EntityZero
So what happens in this situation? Did you forfeit your ability to have cablemod replace your GPU by disregarding the recall?
dismiggo
The 12VHPWR connector is why I’m going to buy a Radeon card next. What good is a slightly better RT and DLSS performance, if I can’t use it, for the fear of damaging it?
ThePythagorasBirb
It’s such a dumb standard, I also don’t understand how a 4090 which draws like what? 450 watts, can get enough from 2x150w and 1x75w. Plus, it’s thinner wires
Chakramer
I hate that they moved to this connector. The 8×3 connector looked cool and was way safer.
awake283
It sucks, and this wont make you feel any better, but you’re far from the first or last person to do this.
Voxelium
i listened, and i took advantage of the recall, i got a right angle cable and a nice set of keycaps for free and my 4090 is happy as ever!
very tragic indeed homie hopefully you can RMA that GPU
in the future definitely listen to recalls, the moment i learned about this recall, i took my v1.1 right angle adapter out and used a regular cable until i got the new right angle cable in the mail.

You knew about the recall and still kept using it?? Fucking idiot you are.

Glad you’re ok, and hope the rest of your rig is safe.

Yes let’s ignore recalls on items that have been known to fail and warned not to use

As someone out of the general loop of things , what’s going on here ?

Are there still working 90 degree adapters? I have one built in, but from another company I think.

>*It was still fine when Cablemod announced the recall. So i thought I’m lucky and kept it.*
Wow, OP… recalls aren’t something to take lightly. When a company finally decides to issue a recall, it means they’ve seen enough examples of something going wrong with a particular product that it got to the point where it’s a safety issue and puts consumers at risk. You don’t just try your luck with recalls. Sorry this happened to you, but I hope you learned your lesson.
Tsambikos96
Listen to what? The sizzling of melting plastic? Lmao
JensensJohnson
dunno what were you thinking there man, they made a revision because the original connector was melting, then the “new and improved” connector was also melting which ultimately led to a recall and you still kept using the CableMelt ?
Merciless_Hobo
Man if only they had recalled these for this exact reason…..
VashHumanoidTyph00n
Glad I swapped mine out. Hopefully the extension doesn’t do the same.
sfelizzia
you live and you learn.
your house might’ve burned down, so remember that fact when you get your GPU repaired and you plug it back into your PC.
AlphaF2
Welp honestly they warned you and you are out of their range for a free repair

Just a question: My cable mod adapter order is from 29th October 2022, so even before OP. I never got an E-Mail. Is there something wrong with OP’s later batch or should I have replaced mine too?

it doesn’t matter, they said. Just keep it, they said
Out of curiosity, was that a 4080 or a 4090 ? Also, im sorry for your loss
Are you MAD
God I’m happy I took mine out. I was really apprehensive because it was totally fine for like a year. But you never know I guess.
