Worth it or nah? I love survival horror and I realize it’s not a AAA title…

Haven’t played it myself, only watched a walkthrough, seemed pretty good, but albeit pretty boring.

What’s the price on it right now? If it’s under $10, go for it. If not, it’s not worth it.

Sorry to say but not being AAA game just means good stuff

I mean it’s not like Skull and Bones AAA, but ..

  5. I just got it a couple of days ago. I’m enjoying it so far. It’s puzzle heavy, so that that as you will

I’ve seen someone play it, and it was actually a pretty good game. The only bad thing about it is that it’s janky/glitchy and has some bugs, some performance issues. But that’s been months. I am sure they addressed it now.
If you are still not 100% sure you could wait when it gets a discount.

  7. I mean, not being AAA sounds like a good thing to me

Don’t confuse triple-A with quality, because it rarely is.

    >and I realize it’s not a AAA title…

    Why do you specify that?

I paid $60 and am enjoying it greatly. It’s like resident evil 2, just a bit jankier. Enemies aren’t as realistic, guns aren’t as snappy and interactions don’t always look great. But it still like a high quality AA game. It’s definitely not a cheapo game

This game has some really cool environments/ settings, that I don’t think I’ve seen in other horror games. Also, the soundtrack is pretty great if you like jazz. It’s basically RE-lite in gameplay and quality. If it goes on sale for $40ish or less I would think that’s a fair price, not really the full $60 tho

  12. I’ve heard people like it though the price seems to be dropping for it. It was on sale for $30 a week or 2 ago. So, if you can hold out you might be able to get it cheaper.

  13. It’s fine, not great. The puzzles are kinda brain dead (even in old school mode). The story is captivating until it starts making absolutely no sense. The gameplay is janky at best. I’d wait til it’s 20$.

It was meh for me. Puzzle heavy like someone else said. Good enough to play, but once I beat it, I didn’t have any interest to return to it. Also, I rented this game from Gamefly.

The game, yes. Movie, no. Uwe Boll is a menace.

  16. You’re missing on a lot of good horror games if all you care about if it’s AAA

It’s a fun but somewhat flawed game. The story is interesting and the gameplay is good. It has some jank that gives it a 360/ps3 era feel to it, this can be a good or bad thing depending on the person. I picked the game up at launch and beat one campaign in about 16 hours. You can pick between two characters but outside of some dialogue changes and some really minor story differences both campaigns are essentially the same thing.

If you enjoy these types of games it’s a solid title. I’d give it like a 7/10 possibly a 8/10 for people who are diehard survival horror fans. If you can find it on sale for like $30 id recommend it in a heartbeat but at $60 I’d say only pick it up if you really need that survival horror fix.

  18. Why is it called Alone in the Dark if there are two people in the cover? Are they stupid?

I’m a huge survival horror fan I play almost everything. There are things to like about it, the atmosphere is top notch and the actors are really good it’s also a period piece which is a plus. The controls are not great and the combat is abysmal though, the puzzles aren’t great either so I’d wait for a sale. I spent full price and was pretty disappointed.

  20. Not very good imo. I’m not saying being AA game is a bad thing in general but this one just feels.. idk cheap imitation of smt like more recent resident evils in terms of movement and combat. Story is somewhat interesting atleast for ~8 hours I played but everything else is so mediocre that I just stopped playing while ago..

My nephew bout it he loves horror games I watched him play about 75 % it’s more a puzzle game then a horror game imo

Is this a remake of the remake, or of the original?

    Or none?

It’s very atmospheric, and some of the minor details are pretty nice. Gameplay is pretty janky, as someone else said it has the feel of a 360/ps3 era game. I wish they’d spent more of the budget polishing it up and less in getting big-name voice actors.

While not a 1:1 comparison, The Sinking City is an atmospheric survival horror game from a smaller studio that nails the execution much better than Alone in the Dark.

Def wait for a sale on this one.
