He is simply straightening out the pins by pretinning them. Then when you pull the wick pull it straight up so that the pin straightens and the solder is pulled of cleanly. Or something.

Also note the heating element and the tip itself: no oxidation whatsoever, that’s a brand-new iron that’s never been plugged in, literally just a prop — and not even an expensive prop, a cheap iron, maybe $10.
What I like are the pics of someone “””using””” a soldering iron — and holding it with their fingers wrapped around the heating element. If it was plugged in even for a few seconds they’d quickly learn why you don’t hold them that way 🤣
