Gotta release new garbage every year or the apple fans won’t pump the numbers. Legit.
CommissionElegant957
They’re too busy charging people $200 for an extra 8 gigs of RAM
ExcitingLiterature33
Tim Cook is a much better CEO. Look at how they undid Jonny Ive’s horrible design changes to the MacBook Pro
Mathias_Thorne91
I’ll never understand the idiots who give this garbage company twice as much to get half as much and then act like it makes them superior.
colossusrageblack
They force you to buy a new ipad by discontinuing support for ipads that are still perfectly usable and run apps just fine. Learned this the hard way buying a refurbished ipad that only ended up being supported for two years, then I couldn’t download apps like YouTube from the store.
LennyJoeDuh
I mean if it wasn’t for gaming I wouldn’t own a pc anymore. Im not a tablet kind of person either, but I can get behind having the internet in my pocket with a phone.

They’re busy adding a calculator for the first time ever to IPADOS 18

I’ve been buying and building PCs since I was a kid and still do to this day.
I still prefer for Apple for my mobile devices.
Stop being morons. It’s not an either/or
Bromanzier_03
> now its sales are way down.
I’m in the market for a new iPad. My 6th gen is showing its age but I wasn’t going to buy one when it had been over a year since the last release. I’m not gonna buy a new one when a newer/better model is right around the corner.
coonissimo
And he was right. Everyone owns a phone now, not everyone owns a PC, especially in less developed countries. Number of mobile gamers is more than two billions people worldwide and more and more younger people are not proficient with computers.
iPad’s are not that relevant now, but it is post-PC era.
Scoobysnax1976
I have the last generation of the iPad Air before they switched to the M chips (4th Gen). It will be 4 years old this fall and is still fast enough for anything that I use it for. My wife is still using an iPad pro from 2017.
Until they break, or apple stops supporting them, I have no reason to upgrade. The iPads have been overpowered for the average user for years.
DietQuark
I think it may even decline more when the Windows arm laptops will start getting momentum.
Schmenza
There’s very little reason to update iPads every year.
InItsTeeth
I mean he was not far off.. I know people who don’t own any kind of computer. They get along fine with a phone and an iPad. It’s more the phone that’s the main push for the post-pc era, the phone pretty much does everything an average person needs a PC for with some minor sticking points.
Obviously computers are here to stay in some capacity but the necessity for them is dwindling at a non-zero rate. I can see a future where traditional PCs are more niche for high end gaming/working
thespank
its just a big phone… They don’t have a use other than being a bigger phone
witwebolte41
Have you interacted with the younger generations attached to tablets?
thirstyfish1212
It’s shit like this that makes me really consider having my current phone be my last iPhone. Hell, my last apple device period. I don’t trust oem android operating systems, but I know I can figure out installing a de-trackerfied OS.
bedwars_player
apple makes good products, reliable, powerful, usable, but expensive.
as pc guys we concede a bit of reliability and usability to save a buck, and also game.
honestly i see either side as perfectly reasonable for anyone to get, but im gonna stick to the pc side myself unless macbooks miraculously get cheap.
LonelyNixon
The market has shifted a bit, but the issue is they overestimated the size of the niche that tablet users would make up. For most of the population its a media device for low spec targeting mobile games, and watching videos , and casual browsing and reading.
You dont need to upgrade your tablet very often to keep up with being able to read books, comics, reddit, and browsing youtube.
Their niche also has a lot more overlap these days. Laptops are a lot lighter and thinner than they were when the ipad launched and have much better battery life. And if you need to work or type carrying an ipad and keyboard is a negligible saving compared to a modern thin laptop. Meanwhile phones have gotten bigger, have much better battery life as well, and are glued to everyone’s pocket/hand.
The niche for tablets absolutely exists to be filled, it’s just that it is a niche and the market has matured.
Also PC computing has declined. There are a lot of younger people who’s primary computing device is a phone not a computer, and desktops are a niche thing sold to enthusiasts and commercial spaces(and even then those tiny all in ones and laptops are taking over offices with cloud computing to make up for any loads that need extra muscle).
LordSlickRick
If Steve Jobs had kept running apple who knows what the iPad could have been, but they have hemmed in the platform considerably and continue to charge exorbitantly for basic upgrades.
JoffreyBezos
I feel like Apple has lost all its hype and charm. The past like 6 or so years have just been slightly improved version of the same stuff. Nothing exciting
a_guy_playing
I remember when the iPad Pro was the “Laptop Killer”
Go ahead Apple, install Steam. I’ll wait. A fucking car already beat you to it.

Apple doesn’t release a product, sales doesn’t go up 🧐
Im_Balto
Apple is holding an Ipad centric event in less than 2 weeks
6SpeedMaverick
Is it just me or have apple products lost their appeal? The MacBook is great for creativity, but it’s just the same old restricted nonsense vs building a big weenie PC and using anything you want. Glad I switched.
DogAteMyCPU
Might as well be true for kids and old people still.
LordFriezy
I despise Apple, but their tablets are second to none. Only the new Samsung galaxy tab holds a candle. Android tablets are garbage
WhiteHawk77
You try and take a dig at Apple then link to an article that in one sentence states something obvious, they didn’t release a new iPad so sales are down, I wonder if those two things are connected somehow?
You do know they are in the middle of a shift to OLED and perhaps needed a bit more time to get it right, the factories who are making them had some difficulties so there have been delays, if everything went right they probably would have launched them end of last year.
Besides that tablet sales as a whole are down about 20% as there’s been a rise in costs of a lot of things so people are buying less stuff, PC stuff included.
But you know all that right?
iPads are still the most popular and best tablets available with the most market share, they ain’t going anywhere.

Wow. Turns out when you gatekeep a walled garden infrastructure, you’re automatically cutting your customer base in half. Shocker
Key_Employee6188
This could so easily be fixed with a 100€ dock sold for 400€. Even I would buy a new ipad and that. Heck make it compatible with iPhone too and make it post imac era.
Vesuvias
I mean, 99% of what most people do on laptops can now be absolutely done on an iPhone/iPad…so the majority are in fact in a post-PC world. We collectively (Redditors) are very much in the minority.
zh0011
And I laughed in Apple’s face then and still do.
Some things cannot be replaced.
The PC is one of them!
lordfappington69
Ipad has too much segmentation.
Give me an ipad with 144hz screen. I’m not spending $799 for an unwieldly form factor, support for a “yuck” stylus just to get a modern refresh rate.
