Need help livening up my work from home closet station. (Not ready to come out of the closet)

I work from home and recently moved my work station to the closet to help limit distractions but it’s very bland. I’m looking to get some advice to help liven it up. Unable to change monitors but have recently purchased a new mechanical keyboard.

I think the largest, and actually important, upgrade that you could do is to buy a quality budget ergonomic chair. Especially if you’re working from home, your back and neck will love you for it. Something with mesh, armrests, adjustable height, and lumbar support. Seriously you need to do this, no excuses.

Another thing that I sort of see as a necessary upgrade would be upward firing / diffused lighting. There’s no windows so no natural light, and it cannot be understated how bad working in a poorly lit area can be (like it’s really really bad for you). So a lamp that illuminates the whole room (especially shooting light up) would be hugely beneficial.

Otherwise you might consider getting a tray to hold your laptop off the desk (don’t know how to describe it but if you google search “Laptop storage stand Charging cooling stand perforation-free multi-function storage desktop tablet stand” it pulls up results for what I’m talking about). Sort of a place to slot your laptop veritcally at the side of your desk, freeing up lots of desk space.

Maybe you can’t remove that wire shelf above you, but personally I know that having something above me like that would drive me insane.

Other ideas are maybe some wireless headset with a mic. Or maybe a conference speaker/mic combo. Some simple wall art for above your monitors. An analog clock on the left wall. Maybe a small house plant. Maybe a larger deskpad that covers the width of your desk. And then maybe some storage containers/shelves. Also for mouse an MX master would blow your current mouse out of the water and get rid of that annoying cable.

Looks good though, nice and clean with the 1 cable for the laptop. Lots of potential here!

Nice and clean little space! I would absolutely get the led strips off the floor that looks… just tape them behind the desk so you can’t see them and it backlights the desk. A shelf over the desk with some meaningful decorations and a plant would look nice and more personal.

This might not be an issue for you, but I’ve been working from home for the past three years in a room in our cellar. It was really nice at first I had all the space I wanted I could set up everything perfectly and I could’ve had the perfect setup but overtime with the limited sunlight reaching the room I noticed with me sitting down there for 8+ hours a day that I do struggle with vitamin D and due to that came some struggles in life. Since then have moved to a different room that has direct sunlight in the mornings to get me up and running. It made all the difference. I feel so much better just having a window next to me.

And also get a proper ergonomic office chair. Shits expensive but see it as in investment into yourself. Preventing all kinds of issues in the future. If ur fully remote this is a must.

Then if your budget allows a standing desk is recommended to be able to stand up during the mid to late hours of the working day. It gets the blood flowing and helps me stay focused and on task.

From there on out it is limited by just your imagination. Add some of your personality.
Imagine your desk in an office environment and everyone who walks by your desk can see who you are just by looking at your desk. Now here is your question:

What do you want those people to think when they see your desk?
