Has anybody ever modded or removed parts from their case for air flow??

One of my fans was suffocating and I didn't really think it would have been that big of a deal until today where I just said what the hell and then just went to work.

I removed the mesh off of the top panel, then removed the gray from the CPU Mount area, then removed all of the plastic bits from the mesh grate (it's an exhaust don't worry)

While I was at it I just remove the side panel for one of my fans for better air flow (dust gonna go crazy in a couple of months

For a whooping 8~ degree difference on my cpu as it's right on the radiator… for mutilating my case and getting a huge thermal difference… 10/10 would recommend

No pictures, but back in the early 2000’s I ended up using a dremel to literally cut openings for 40mm fans into the back of a generic beige case, as well as cutting a hole for a fan into the side panel.

    check out r/casemods

The case I used before the one I currently have I tried using a screwdriver to make some holes in the front panel. It looked ugly and wasn’t really helping so I spent another $50 and bought one that had a much better designed airflow.

I removed the glass panel and cut out all the hexagonal shaped plastic in the front of my antec nx600. Replaced the bunch with some mesh from Ali express.

It dropped my temps by 10/15 degrees and reduced the noise too.

Looks like a solution to a problem that could have been avoided. But hey if it works, it works!

Yes, many, many times. Even now I am running DIY external radiator.
Used angle grinder to remove the solid part of the front panel from the cheapest case I had to replace it with mosquito net working as dust filter(you get a huge roll for almost nothing, cut to size…)

That is why I am at the stage of modelling of my new case. I dislike the ergonomics of the cases on the market, the layouts, the practical issues of them. Rather model it from alu extrusions with slots, make my own mounts and F-that overpriced crap.
Fully modular, can be fully disassembled, everything will have it´s own compartment, SSF-ish… And airflow… lots of airflow.

And best part is, it will cost me like 60€ to buy the extrusions for it. 3D print brackets to hold it together and never have to worry about case again…

I generally buy cases where I don’t have to do things like this, but I’ve done this a lot in gaming PC’s that I flip.

Several times, usually to build a loop but also like you did in the floor of a case for better air flow.

Most recently though a storm stryker.

Cuts to fit a 360 rad in the roof and removed drive bays to install a sheet of metal to mount a 360 rad vertical in the front so I could remove one corner of the frame completely.

    A bitfenix prodigy

To fit a 240 rad in the front as well as the roof.
