PC

I’m new to building and got this mother Board from Amazon. Is the CPU supposed to look like this

The CPU looks damaged and I’m worried it won’t run properly, should I return?

Lots of bent pins. Get a refund or replacement.

the cpu is not there and it looks like a damaged slot some pins are damaged it can maybe work but it’s not guaranteed so its best to return it

  3. that’s not a CPU, it’s the CPU socket

and yes, it’s damaged, you should get a replacement

No offense, but please watch some basic videos on pc building and inform yourself on what pc parts there are and what they do. There‘s a good chance you‘ll get ripped off, break something or burn your house down if you try to build a pc with your current knowledge.

  7. Oh god… Return it immediately to Amazon for sure.

Is there a computer store near you that you can buy in-person? I would rather buy it in-person if possible for critical components like motherboards and CPUs as most computer stores should show the customers the condition of the parts before completing the transaction. Even though Amazon has a really good return process/policy, it can also lead to cases similar as yours where other buyers return similar products for basically a full on refund or Amazon workers failing to verify the condition of the returns (which is sadly very often).

That’s the CPU socket and it seems like there’s a lot of bent pins there. Get a replacement/return the item.

Get it replaced, someones likely returned it and Amazon has sent it out as ‘good as new’

  10. Return this; unless you have experience in fixing bent pins and this was extraordinarily cheap to buy then it’s not worth the headache.

I never buy parts online unless I have no other option. I have a computer shop pretty close with reasonable prices and I’d rather pay just a few bucks more for something I can take back the same day then try and fight online with returns.

Mobo cpu socket is damaged so get that replaced or get a refund, the cpu itself is sold separately so when you buy it make sure it is compatible with the mobo socket

add thermal paste to fill the gaps and it should be fine (also, return it before doing that)
